Accessible Environment

  

The UNWE provides an accessible environment for students with disabilities studying at the University. Creating equal opportunities and an accessible environment for education, as well as successful integration into the social environment, is of utmost importance. The University provides the best conditions for students with disabilities - accessibility to the University space through access platforms, ramps and lifts, auditoriums with special places for students with disabilities, places with facilitated access to the University's information system, specialized reading space in the library for visually impaired people. It is provided unobstructed access for students with disabilities to the Rector's Office in the University. Special spaces for people with disabilities have been designated in the test centers and parking spaces have been provided for them in the central car park and the car parks of Campus D and I.

It is provided unobstructed access from the pavement area to the building fund of the UNWE academic campuses. Ramps have been constructed at the main entrances of academic campuses B, D and I, including the Center for Documents Reception.

To facilitate the access, special platforms have been installed on the inner steps of the central entrance of UNWE building - at Academic Campus B and on the outer steps of the entrance of Academic Campus I. The academic campuses are also provided with lifts to ensure an internal accessibility.

In all university campuses tactile signs in Braille for visually impaired students have been installed on the information boards, in all offices, classrooms and the elevators.

The seats in the auditoriums reserved for students with disabilities are marked with the appropriate signs

The students with specific mobility difficulties are able to move accessibly and seamlessly around the campus on stairs and uneven surfaces through a mobile device with a platform - a movement mechanism for people with mobility problems, which includes a stair climbing device in set with a wheelchair for people with disabilities.

The newest Academic Campus K of the UNWE building is designed and constructed in full compliance with the requirements for accessible environment, a special ramp for students with special mobility difficulties has been built, the elevators are wide and comfortable, the toilets are adapted for access of people with disabilities, including in the underground parking lot of the building there are parking spaces for them.

Four of the blocks of the UNWE Student Dormitories provide access to people with disabilities through the installed facilities - special ramps and equipped lifts. Ten of the rooms are adapted for use by people with disabilities.


As part of the campaign Accessible Bulgaria of the Commission for Protection against Discrimination /CPD/ conducted in July 2023, a screening of accessible architectural environments was carried out throughout the country. The UNWE was awarded a certificate for an accessible architectural environment from the Commission for Protection against Discrimination for its efforts and care for students with disabilities, for building and providing an accessible environment so that the young people who want to study at the University do not feel discriminated against.
