Economics of Defence and Security with specialization Nuclear Security taught in English

General Information

The programme is the result of a cooperation agreement in the field of education and research signed between the UNWE and the International Atomic Energy Agency /IAEA/ in July 2014 and renewed in February 2019.

UNWE, with the Department of National and Regional Security /DNRS/ as its main representative has been accepted as a member of the International Nuclear Security Education Network /INSEN/ which includes more than 45 countries with more than 120 organizations - universities, research centers, NGOs, etc.

Among the students who study and successfully complete the speciality there are representatives from several continents and countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Yemen, Iran, etc.

Educational Objectives

The Master's degree programme aims to prepare highly qualified managerial staff for the demands of the nuclear power industry, related industries and the administrative structures responsible for regulating the use of nuclear materials.

The lectures, exercises and courseworks are exclusively in English so that students can confirm and improve their language skills in addition to learning and practicing the specific terminology in the field of nuclear safety. Students will have access to informational materials provided by an international team of lecturers as well as the opportunity to contact with private and public sector representatives in the field.

Graduates of the Master's degree programme in Economics of Defence and Security with specialization in Nuclear Security can find professional development in the following areas:

• Managers and security experts in nuclear facilities - nuclear power plants, nuclear fuel cycle facilities - mines, enrichment facilities, nuclear material storage facilities, transportation companies authorized to handle nuclear material or medical facilities that use nuclear material;

• Investigative and law enforcement authorities – the Ministry of Interior, State Agency for National Security, Customs Administration;
