UNWE Was The Host of A Grand Snooker Show and The Rector Opened The World Event

The Grand Snooker Show in Bulgaria began impressively at the UNWE - the host of the world event. The university support expressed by the Rector Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev was an evidence that there is a place for a cooperation between the academic circles and that gentleman sport – similar to the Beijing University where is held one of the greatest tournaments in the world - the Open Championship of China having a prize fund of nearly 500 thousand pounds.

More than 500 people in Maxima Aula enjoyed a snooker game at world level. The hosts implemented a different approach for the organization of such a tournament. The conditions in the hall were accepted exclusively well by both world champions Stuart Bingham and Shaun Murphy so they promised to come again.

The Rector pointed out that there had been two serious reasons for being a host of such an event. “The first reason is that our student Ivaylo Pekov is the only Bulgarian who has participated in the World Snooker Championship last year in Sheffield, England and because of that he was chosen with no appeal for a student – sportsman of the year of UNWE”, outlined Prof. Stattev and announced that soon a Snooker Club would be established at the university. The Rector confessed that the second reason for being a host is personal – his passion for that intelligent and highly-noble game, a passion which dates backs from the 60s in his home town Bourgas. “So my preparation for this strike has a very long story”, said the Rector.
