Round-Table Conference on The Ethical Commissions in The Academic Environment

Round-Table Conference on the Ethical Commissions in the Academic Environment gathered representatives of the academic circles from the UNWE and other universities in the country. The event which was the first of its kind was organized by the idea of Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Plamen Mishev, Chairman of the Commission on Academic Ethics at the UNWE. At the meeting attended also the members of the Commission Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Head of the National and Regional Security Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Valentina Dramalieva from the Political Economics Department and Lidia Doncheva, Finance Director as well as the Ombudsman of the university Prof. Dr. Blagoy Kolev, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, representatives of the Bulgarian Academy of Science and the Agricultural Academy.

The purpose of the meeting is to identify the tasks and role of the Commission on Academic Ethics, the good and bad practices, difficult cases, pointed out Prof. Dr. Plamen Mishev at the opening of the Forum. He was clear that the representatives of the academic community should have contacts with each other because they develop and assemble on the base of the ethical principles.

In her presentation Assoc. Prof. Dr. Valentina Dramalieva presented the issues to the Commission on Academic Ethics, the Ethical code, ethical problems. She examined the fact that the science needs special moral norms and the idea of self-regulation as leading for the scientific community. She also analyzed the thesis that the external control (state, law) should be based on the ethical codes of the community. Assoc. Prof. Dramalieva pointed out some arguments about the need of ethical code, examined the role of the Ethical Commission as a specific instrument and the so called usual ethical issues in the scientific field, etc. The five groups of deviations in the academic behavior were specified as well as how to cope with them.

In their statements the attendees emphasized on the unsolved and difficult issues in the academic environment, defined practices, etc.
