Ivan Ivanov Chairman of the Bulgarian Water Association

"Every year we traditionally organize such a competition due to our good partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Water and the Enterprise for Management of Environmental Protection Activity", said the Chairman of the Bulgarian Water Association Eng. Ivan Ivanov. "Why did we choose to present the exhibition at UNWE? This year the theme of the UN World Water Day is Water for Peace. Wars for water supplies have been fought for a long time. Nowadays, there are also territorial disputes over natural resources, water is expected to become an increasingly scarce resource in the future. Dialogue, good diplomacy, and the successful management of water resources are needed to avoid future conflicts. I think that diplomacy and management skills are forged at this university. That`s why through this exhibition, we decided to attract young people from theUNWE to the cause”.

Reneta Koleva, Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Environment and Water, who has been involved in the organization of the contest for 11 years, said: "It gets harder and harder to choose the most beautiful photograph because they are all impressive. Due to the lens of the contestants, we enjoy our beautiful nature and transport to these magical places. I hope that your students will also be able to experience the beauty of water and gain additional knowledge about our bodies of water. The fact is that due to the climate change, there has been a shift in recent years and we all have to realize that the environment is not a given, It is part of our nature and if we do not conserve and manage it sustainably the future generations won't have the opportunity to enjoy it".

"We are very glad to host this interesting exhibition. There are impressive photographs. Water can be very beautiful, but sometimes very dangerous", said the Rector Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov and added that the slogan Water for Peace shows another aspect - the existence of major conflicts over water in Somalia, Ethiopia, in Egypt for the Nile River, in Jordan and Israel for the Jordan River, and in Turkey and Iraq for Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. "At our university several Departments teach the issues related to the theme of the World Water Day in the current year, these are the Natural Resources Department, International Economic Relations Department, National and Regional Security Department and all the Institutes at our university that work on these issues for both crises and disasters. It is a very serious matter., Let`s realize the peace we all could achieve together through the beauty of water."

All these issues require urgent attention at international, regional and local levels.
