Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Rector of the Bulgarian University of National and World Economy, said recently in an interview with a reporter for the Economic Daily newspaper that in the recent years the University has actively promoted the international cooperation and the Chinese universities are its indispensable partners.

It is understandable that the UNWE has long maintained close collaboration with many higher education institutions in China. For example, it cooperates with the Tianjin Foreign Studies University, with which it has launched a four-year joint programme to educate Bachelor`s degree students in Economics. The enrolment capacity for this project is 100 students, some of them will study in Bulgaria for one year and upon completion of their studies, they will receive Bachelor's degree certificates issued by the University of China and the University of Bulgaria, respectively. In autumn 2023 the first Chinese students have already received their visas.

"Their enthusiasm for learning and their entrepreneurial spirit deeply impressed the Bulgarian lecturers." Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov said that in order to adapt to the requirements for accepting the learning achievements of Chinese institutions, the UNWE has made special adjustments in the curriculum and the programme of lecturers.

Acording to Prof. Dimitrov believes that strengthening the cooperation with Chinese universities is an inevitable choice. China's growing economic and technological power inspires the desire of the Bulgarian people to understand Chinese society and culture. China has created a variety of high-precision products covering areas such as mobile phones, nuclear power plants and new energy vehicles. At the same time, from completing international orders, introducing technology and continuously achieving technological breakthroughs, China has successfully shaped its own brand. This transformation is not accidental. In this process, a good education system and continued investment in research are crucial. China's successful experience is a valuable reference for other countries. Bulgaria's economic and social development must also go through a similar process. Chinese experts and scientists are therefore expected to pass on more experience to Bulgaria.

As the largest, the eldest and the most prestigious business school in Bulgaria and indeed in the whole South Eastern Europe, the University of National and World Economy has earned recognition in all fields of life for its excellence in teaching, research and learning. At the end of January the relevant institutions of the Bulgarian government announced the results of the Bulgarian universities evaluation, according to which the UNWE has the highest quality of teaching among all higher education institutions in the country.

Prof. Dimitrov stated to our reporter that the UNWE is a member of the European academic network ENGAGE.EU. The organization consists of nine leading business schools from Norway, the Netherlands, France and other countries. It aims to expand students' international horizons and improve their overall competitiveness by sharing knowledge bases and conducting collaborative research activities. At the same time, the University makes positive progress in building a Big Data Centre and will be committed to exploring practical ways to promote digitization in Bulgarian agriculture and transport. The Bulgarian University of National and World Economy is currently in negotiations with two other Chinese higher education institutions and hopes to launch new collaboration and exchange projects in 2025.

Prof. Dimitrov said that the University is committed to create a new model of collaboration between China and Bulgaria and also looks forward to more Chinese students coming to the country for further studies to create new oportunities for friendly relations between the two countries and to deepen the collaboration and cultural exchange between the two nations.
