Rosen Plevneliev Will Be a Special Guest at the Opening of SDSN Bulgaria at the UNWE

On 5 June 2023 the new Sustainable Development Solutions Network SDSN Bulgaria will be officially opened at the University of National and World Economy. UNWE is the Coordinator for our country under the chairmanship of the Rector of UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov and the Vice Rector for Research and International Affairs Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mihail Musov.

The event will be attended by special guests including the President of Bulgaria in the period 2012-2017 Rosen Plevneliev, the Vice President and Head of SDSN Paris Office Guillaume Lafortune and the Co-Chairman of SDSN Europe and SDSN Greece Prof. Dr. Phoebe Koundoury.

The UNWE was approved as the Coordinator of SDSN Bulgaria in 2022 and the main objective of SDSN Bulgaria is to mobilize its members and use their respective strengths to help realize the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Network objectives include: to expand its range and become a center of attraction for academic circles, civil society, institutions and young people in the country; to organize events and provide free access to educational resources and research on sustainable development goals, green transformation of the economy and society; to internationalize its activities by actively participating in SDSN regional and global networks, contributing to the active participation of Bulgaria in achieving the UN Global Goals.

SDSN Bulgaria relies on three main pillars to deliver its objectives - education; awareness and engagement; and solutions. The official website of the network for Bulgaria will also be presented during the opening event.


About the guests of the event

Rosen Plevneliev is the fourth democratically elected President of the Republic of Bulgaria /2012-2017/. He is Minister of Regional Development and Public Works /2009-2011/, engineer and entrepreneur.

Guillaume Lafortune manages the work on data and statistics for the SDGs, including the preparation of the SDG Index and it is expected to be published the Global Sustainable Development Report /GSDR/ 2023 in which Bulgaria will be included for the first time.

Prof. Dr. Phoebe Koundoury is included in the official list of Stanford University of the top 2% of global scholars and is also among the top 1% of most cited women economists in the world.
