"The newly established National Network for Sustainable Development Solutions at the UNWE demonstrates the desire and capacity of our university to be an institution focused on the future of higher education, on building knowledge and skills in its students for the professions of the next decade and on using the innovative and expert potential of academia circles, research centers and civil society in Bulgaria to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals" – Assist. Dr. Monika Panayotova.

"I am enthusiastic and full of energy to contribute to the development of SDSN Bulgaria. I believe that the dedication to achieving common goals through collaborative efforts and maintaining such an important network of like-minded individuals will not only protect the name of UNWE as a leader in higher education but also the name of Bulgaria as an active participant in achieving the UN Global Goals and thus in building a better future for all of us" – Chief Assist. Atanas Dimitrov.

Over the next year SDSN Bulgaria sets an objective:

  • to expand its range and become a center of attraction for representatives of academic circles, civil society, institutions and young people in the country;
  • to organize events and provide free access to educational resources and research on the goals of sustainable development, green transformation of the economy and society;
  • to internationalize its activities by actively participating in SDSN's regional and global networks, contributing to the active participation of Bulgaria in achieving the UN Global Goals.

"It is not a coincidence that today we announce the leadership of SDSN Bulgaria because today the Europe Sustainable Development Report 2022 is published" - says Assoc. Prof. Mihail Musov adding: "The report shows that seven years after the international community adopted the Sustainable Development Goals, the EU progress in implementing them has stalled. Although the EU still has a chance to meet about 2/3 of the targets, the remaining targets show insufficient progress or efforts in the wrong direction, especially those related to responsible consumption, climate and biodiversity". The full text of the Report is available here.
