Public Lecture by Anthony De Lannoy, IMF Executive Director on the IMF in a Changing World

The IMF in a changing World was the topic of the public lecture by Anthony De Lannoy, Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which he delivered to students and lecturers in the Large Conference Hall.

The Rector Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev greeted the guest-lecturer and presented him as an exclusively impressive person having a remarkable career development. He emphasized on the large number of high managerial positions occupied by Mr. De Lannoy over the years.

In his presentation Mr. Anthony De Lannoy spoke about the IMF structure and explained the quota principle of institution government. He pointed out the key tasks and functions of the IMF: surveillance, capacity development and lending. (See the presentation here)

The lecturer explained the IMF mechanisms and instruments for implementing its major functions, kinds of lending, programmes and conditions consistent with the resources and capacity of the relevant country. He gave as examples some African and Asian states. The guest also examined the IMF supported programme in Greece which had provoked a wide discussion and diversified opinions.

The lecturer emphasized on the reforms at the IMF related to the governing, activity and communication of the institution and pointed out the major challenges to the IMF in the changing world: the climate changes, macroeconomic impact of the new technologies: blockchain and fintech, cyber security and the systemic impact of cyber incidents.

The Rector awarded to Mr. Anthony De Lannoy a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his lecture as well as a Commemorative Medal of Prof. Stephan Bobchev – Founder and First Rector of UNWE (in the pictures below).
