95th Academic Year Was Officially Opened

“Today is a significant day in the history of our university because we open the 95^th academic year”, outlined in the crowded Maxima Aula the Rector of UNWE Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev. Vladislav Goranov, Financial Minister was the official guest for the opening of the new academic year. The beginning of the official ceremony was announced by the sounds of the national, European and then the student anthem "Gaudeamus igitur".

Today the UNWE opens its doors for 4370 first year students who are the 95^th alumnus in our glorious history, pointed out the Rector emphasizing on the fact that the university had won the confidence and desire of young people to choose it for their higher school. He highlighted the reasons of that: the UNWE is a university of success, it fervently keeps and develops its academic traditions, the UNWE creates educational and scientific standards, it constantly goes forward, it improves the academic plans and programmes and dedicatedly works for enhancing the quality of education in relation to the practice, the UNWE is always some steps ahead of its academic brothers and most of all it is the university which has prepared the Bulgarian elite for already 95 years and diplomas of its graduates are a guarantee for their successful career.

Prof. Statty Stattev wished the first year students to be ambitious and studiousness, responsible and disciplined, wise, big-hearted and firm in defending their goals, good people and honest citizens. “Since today you begin investing in your future, you set the beginning of your way to the great knowledge, realization of your dreams and lots of beautiful friendships and unforgettable moments”, said to the first year students in the hall the Rector. Love Bulgaria and your university! Be worthy members of the academic family of UNWE with its 22 thousand fellows! Give vent to the breadth and serenity of the free human spirit because it makes the power, appealed the young people Prof. Stattev.

The Rector greeted also the lecturers who had made the university success possible with their dedicated efforts, love of university, respecting scientific and lecturing potential, full knowledge of educational and researching mission. Prof. Stattev greeted the officials of UNWE wishing them successful work.

“We live in interesting but difficult times. We should be strong because new trials, difficulties, challenges are in for us and we ought to give worthy answers and make competent decisions for going forward. We have proved we can do that. Let`s go on doing that. Let we be a worthy followers of our academic founders – those who with legendary diligence, revival energy and enormous love to the knowledge and native land had implemented their epochal work by setting the foundations of today`s UNWE – the leader in Bulgarian and European educational area which enjoys the respect of academic circles, foreign partners, state and business, the whole society”, outlined also Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev.

At the official ceremony attended some present and former members of the Academic Leadership, Dimitar Dilchev, Mayor of Students District, Heads of organizations-partners and lots of guests.

It is a privilege for me to be a guest for the official opening of the 95^th academic year at the pillar of economic science and education in the country, pointed out the Financial Minister Vladislav Goranov who is also a Doctoral student at the UNWE. He emphasized on the merits of the present Academic Leadership and all the Rectors after 1989 for they had saved the specialization of UNWE and had led the university to the level of sustainable higher school – leader in the education in the field of economic and humanitarian sciences. Minister Goranov pointed out that the present government as well as the rest governments of transition had been debtors to students. He specified that it wasn`t “just because of the financial dimensions for which the first year students would study that they had never been enough but because of the system of regulations offered in the field of higher education and its quality”. According to his words the initiatives in the legislation and regulations would be oriented to the stimulation of successful universities such as UNWE and in contradiction to “the numerous unnecessary and insufficiently effective student admissions”. He outlined his full solidarity with the Academic Leadership of UNWE regarding the management and quality of education at the higher school.

The Financial Minister wished the first year students to find the finest balance between the life in Students Town and the education provided to them by the UNWE. “This balance is very slight but I am an optimist and wish you success because I know that those of you who want to study they can do that at the UNWE. There are lots of universities where even you have the desire for studying you can`t obtain such quality of education as you can do that here”.

The Rector Prof. Stattev awarded to the Minister Goranov a Certificate and Commemorative Medal of Prof. Stephan Bobchev – Founder and First Rector of UNWE. The distinction was conferred on him for “his institutional and human support for repairing the academic New building of UNWE and for his commitment to the issues of Bulgarian higher education and science” (in the picture below).  

On behalf of the Students Council its Chairman Denis Dimitrov greeted the first year students for the opening of the new academic year. He greeted them also for the good choice and reminded that at the UNWE they would have the opportunity to improve themselves and obtain a lot of skills and knowledge. Never stop learning, insist for more and more knowledge from your lecturers because one day you should find realization at the labour market and then you`ll be assessed according to the base of your knowledge you have obtained at the university, said Denis Dimitrov.

The first year student girl from the subfield of Finance, Accountancy and Control Petra Foteva, graduate of the Trade High School in Bourgas and admitted with the highest score at the UNWE greeted the lecturers and her colleagues. It`s in for us to realize our dreams and so we should be very brave and independent and learn to take responsibility for our actions for being worthy and leave a deep trace behind us. I believe that the UNWE is the place where we all will have that opportunity but it depends only on us to make use of it, pointed out the first year student girl.

The Rector of UNWE Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev and the Financial Minister Vladislav Goranov officially opened the repaired and renovated New building of UNWE.

After the official ceremony the Rector and the Financial Minister laid wreaths in front of the monument of the founder and first Rector of UNWE Prof. Stephan Bobchev (in the picture below).

After the official opening of 95^th academic year were carried out the traditional meetings between the 4370 first year students and the Faculty Leaderships.
