The beginning was set in 1923 with the opening of the Library at the Free University of Political and Economic Sciences - the predecessor of the UNWE. The Library established itself as a center of valuable economic and other literature, with up-to-date periodicals and electronic resources.

In 2012 the University Library was granted the status of Depository Library of the World Intellectual Property Organization /WIPO/. Today, the book fund exceeds 560 000 volumes.
The UNWE Library was also one of the first university libraries that begin to digitize its book heritage and currently the majority of full-text books and periodicals are in digital format.
The UNWE Library celebrates its 100th Anniversary with a major renovation turning it into a modern center for information and knowledge and providing modern services for students and lecturers. In the summer of 2023, in just a few months, the old space was transformed into a modern library with new reading rooms, a shared space, a corner for blind students, upgraded digital capabilities, new modern and ergonomic furniture and a robot to welcome and guide visitors.
The University Library has 100 computer workstations with free internet access and a digital library.
