Lecturer from The UNWE Took Part in The UN International Conference in Geneva
At the International Conference Center in Geneva, Switzerland was held the UNISDR (United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction) Science and Technology Conference on the Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. In the work of the Forum took part also Prof. Dr. Dimitar Velev from the Information Technologies and Communications Department. At the Conference attended more than 1000 scientists, public figures and leaders from all over the world who presented various ideas and points of view as well as elaborations about fighting the disasters – natural, technological, social, etc.

As a Secretary of the Domain Committee on Information Technology in Disaster Risk Reduction (DCITDRR) at International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Prof. Velev presented a poster and detailed exposition determining the Committee tasks. They include: focusing the attention and research activity of the world IT community on the issues of disaster risk reduction; provision of additional opportunities for IFIP members to work with the specialized world organizations as UN, UNISDR, ICSU, ITU and ISCRAM; coordination of the activities of IT communities in this specific field.
During the Conference were established very useful contacts with non-governmental and scientific organizations from all over the world for joint work and future scientific research projects in that problematic filed.

Prof. Velev also announced the upcoming First IFIP International Conference on the Application of Information Technologies in Disaster Risk Reduction which would be held in the period 16-18 November 2016 at the UNWE.
The Domain Committee on Information Technology in Disaster Risk Reduction (DCITDRR) at International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) was established during the IFIP Global Assembly held in November 2015 in Daejeon, South Korea – the city known as the Asian silicon valley. Prof. Velev was unanimously elected as the Committee Secretary.
Prof. Velev is the Bulgarian national representative of the Technical Commission on the Information Technology Application at International Federation for Information Processing. IFIP is established in 1960 under the auspices of UNESCO and it is recognized by the UN and other world organizations. It is a leading multinational organization in the field of information and communication technologies and sciences. It unites IT associations from 56 countries on 5 continents and has more than 500 000 members.
