The Rector and Delegation from the UNWE Visited 4 Partner Universities in China

At the end of October 2025 a delegation from the UNWE visited the Chinese partner universities with which it has joint programmes – Hebei University of Economics and Business /HUEB/, Tianjin Foreign Studies University /TFSU/ and Shanghai Jiao Tong University /SJTU/.

Our university was represented by the Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, the Vice Rector for International Affairs Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yanko Christozov, the Chairperson of the Control Council and Head of the Accounting and Analysis Department Prof. Dr. Daniela Feschiyan, the Scientific Secretary of the Accounting and Analysis Department Chief Assist. Dr. Radka Andasarova and Chief Assist. Dr. Anika Petkova, Coordinator of the Dual Bachelor's Programme in Economics between the UNWE and the TFSU.

Hebei University of Economics and Business /HUEB/

Since September 2025 both new dual Bachelor's degree programmes between the UNWE and HUEB – Finance and Accounting and Trade and Sales – have been launched. A total of 226 students have been admitted to the programmes. During the meeting between the Rectors – Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov and Prof. Gao Bo – strategic and technical issues regarding the education that will be provided by lecturers from both universities were discussed.

The delegation toured the university campus and visited the halls where the lectures for students enrolled in the two new dual programmes will be held. The students received from the Vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Hristozov branded mascots – teddy bears with the UNWE logo.

The meetings continued with the presentation of the results from the joint project Standardized Models for Recognition, Accounting and Disclosure of the Cultural Heritage of Bulgaria and China. It is a joint project between the UNWE and HUEB, led by Prof. Dr. Daniela Feschiyan, Head of the UNWE Accounting and Analysis Department.

At the end of the day the official opening of Sofia Smart Business Institute took place – it is the figurative name of the new partner structure. All students admitted to the new programmes attended the event. An invitation will soon be sent to the UNWE lecturers who are interested in teaching in China.

Tianjin Foreign Studies University /TFSU/

The Bulgarian delegation was welcomed by the President of TFSU Prof. Dr. Li Yingying. During the official meeting several key directions for the future cooperation between the two universities were discussed. Emphasis was placed on the development of the joint Dual Bachelor's Programme in Economics, which has been successfully operating for six years. The participants in the discussion talked about the upcoming exchange of students and lecturers in the frameworks of the Programme aimed at deepening the academic relations and enhancing the international mobility.

An exciting meeting was held between the students and Chief Assist. Dr. Anika Petkova, Coordinator of the Dual Bachelor's Programme in Economics between the UNWE and TFSU. During the meeting many positive comments were expressed.

The Cooperation Agreement between the UNWE and TFSU related to the new Master's Programme in Business Management and Economics Taught in English which is set to officially launch in the near future, was also discussed. At the end of their visit the UNWE representatives had the opportunity to tour the campus of the Tianjin Foreign Studies University and they were strongly impressed by the specific architecture and modern infrastructure of the academic complex.

The visit strengthened the traditionally good relations between the two universities and outlined new prospects for the development of the academic partnership and cultural exchange between Bulgaria and China.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University /SJTU/

The meeting at SJTU between the Rector of UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov and the President of the Chinese partner Prof. Ding Kuiling was extremely productive as it discussed opportunities to strengthen the partnership through attracting more students to study at both universities. Lecturers and students mobilities were also discussed. The UNWE expressed interest in the K171 procedure, and the SJTU - in looking for additional funding for mobilities.

As a sign of gratitude the President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University made a donation of 62 volumes of literature to the UNWE. The official awarding was attended by the Consul General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Shanghai Mr. Vladislav Spasov who provided full support and assistance during the meetings of the UNWE Rector with the representatives of the Chinese universities.

The Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov met with the President of New York University Shanghai Prof. Shijun. NYU Shanghai is one of the most prestigious universities in the city, established as one of the major joint investments between the USA and China, specifically between the New York University and the East China Normal University.
