Representatives of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Visited the UNWE to Discuss the Expanding Cooperation

A meeting with a delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University /SJTU/ – one of the leading universities in China – was held at the UNWE. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen and expand the long-standing partnership between the two universities and to discuss the possibilities for its future development.

On behalf of the UNWE in the meeting took part Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svetla Boneva, Dean of the UNWE Faculty of International Economics and Politics, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Antonina Habova from the International Relations Department and representatives of the International Affairs Directorate in the person of Janet Kalcheva, Simona Nikova, Nadezhda Ilieva and Ivaylo Nikolov.

The Chinese delegation was represented by Prof. Dr. HU Hao, Assistant President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Prof. Dr. CHE Shengquan from the School of Design, Tsin Ifun, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the School of Design, and Ms. YUAN Lijuan, Director for Europe & Oceania Affairs, Office of International Cooperation.

During the meeting the current status and future development of the Dual Master’s programme in International Business and Governance taught in English, the opportunities for applying under the Erasmus+ Programme KA171 for a project to be submitted at the beginning of the next year, and ideas for new joint projects and future initiatives for academic cooperation were discussed.

A special emphasis was placed on the Dual Master's Degree Programme between the UNWE and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, which has established itself as a successful model for international partnership and high quality education. Dilyana Boyadzhieva, student from the UNWE, who is among the first participants in the Programme, also took part in the meeting. She has a Bachelor's degree in Applied Linguistics with English and Chinese from St. St. Cyril and Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo and currently completes the Dual Master’s programme in International Business and Governance taught in English. Dilyana has successfully defended her diploma thesis at the UNWE under the scientific supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Paskal Zhelev, and she is about to do the same at the SJTU. Dilyana Boyadzhieva shared her contentment with the education and the opportunities that the Programme provides for academic and professional development.

The meeting was held in a spirit of mutual respect and shared goals as both sides confirmed their desire to continue developing the strategic partnership between the UNWE and Shanghai Jiao Tong University through new joint initiatives, exchange of students and lecturers and expansion of international projects.
