A new shared space was opened in the central lobby of our university. It is part of the initiative ChangePerspective led by Philip Morris Bulgaria to reduce the environmental pollution from improperly discarded cigarette butts. As part of its long-term efforts to build a sustainable and committed academic environment the UNWE supports the initiative for the second year and smart benches with solar panels, interactive boxes for collecting used filters, and chargers have already been installed in the university courtyard.

Before the opening of the shared space the Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, who is also one of the heroes of the ChangePerspective series initiated by Philip Morris Bulgaria and published in the Storio section of the online edition of Dnevnik, said: "With the opening of this modern shared space for students, built with the help of Philip Morris Bulgaria, we take another step towards creating an inspiring and sustainable university environment". He emphasized that the shared space is a natural continuation of the fruitful cooperation: "On the path to sustainable development the UNWE has found a strategic partner in Philip Morris Bulgaria and ChangePerspective initiative, which unites us around an important cause - protecting the environment from pollution and building responsible behavior among young people. I am convinced that through such partnerships we not only improve the conditions for our students, but also set an example of how knowledge, innovation and social responsibility can go hand in hand".

"We are very happy to be part of this partnership, which has resulted in the creation of a new shared space at our university. It will help students in their studies and during the breaks between lectures. I am sure that there will be more similar joint initiatives in the future", said Prof. Tsvetana Stoyanova, Vice-Rector for Institutional and Business Cooperation and Student Policies. She added that this space will also serve as an information campaign and the students would have the opportunity to reevaluate their behavior.

"The cooperation between the business and the academia is important to us. ChangePerspective initiative started as an information campaign against cigarette butt and litter pollution. I think that today, five years after the campaign began, it has become something much bigger. Today, it is a path to change the cultural attitudes - to educate the society as a whole", said Dilyana Yakova, Manager of Regulations and Sustainable Development at Philip Morris Bulgaria, who is also the driving force behind the information campaign, with over 13 years of experience as a regulatory expert. "I am glad that it is at UNWE that we create such a shared space with a mission. Everyone should think about the future that want to have. Students, being our future, I hope will embrace this campaign as their own", added Dilyana Yakova.

"It is extremely important for us to have such shared spaces, especially with campaigns to protect the environment. Congratulations for the initiative. Congratulations also to the University Management for establishing such partnerships and creating favorable conditions for us, the students", said Kaloyan Stefanov, Chairperson of the Student Council.

The initiative ChangePerspective led by Philip Morris Bulgaria is an information campaign that aims to raise the awareness about the extent of environmental pollution caused by improperly discarded cigarette butts and to encourage the responsible consumption.
