The Ambassador of The Kingdom of Spain to Bulgaria H. E. Jose Luis Tapia Delivered A Public Lecture

H. E. Jose Luis Tapia, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Bulgaria delivered a public lecture at the university on the Spain in the Security Council: Transparency and Responsibility, Spain in the United Nations. The Ambassador was accompanied by Javier Valdivielso, Director for Bulgaria of the Cervantes Institute and Cesar Aja, Director of the Educational Issues Division at the Embassy of Spain.

Before the lecture the Ambassador met with the Rector of UNWE Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Statty Stattev. At the meeting attended also Assoc. Prof. Dr. Daniela Koh-Kozhuharova, Head of the Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics Department.

Prof. Stattev presented to Spanish guests the university-leader in the country and in the region, its history and current achievements. He informed the guests about the high assessment given to our scholarship students at the University of Barcelona during 2007-2009 and outlined that the UNWE had concluded cooperation agreements with five Spain universities. The Rector expressed his desire for more effective cooperation with those universities and pointed out Spain as a preferred destination also by our students from the Erasmus programme. Prof. Stattev announced the UNWE idea of opening a joint Master`s degree programme with a Spain university as well as creating a Club of the Friends of Spanish Language and Culture.

At the lecture of H. E. Jose Luis Tapia in the Ceremonial Hall attended a lot of lecturers and students. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Daniela Koh presented the guest and shared that his first visit at the university was a continuation of the fruitful tradition to accept Spanish diplomats and Directors of Cervantes Institute as guests.

In his lecture H.E. Jose Luis Tapia examined the Programme of Spain as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2015-2016. He expressed his thankfulness to Bulgaria for the support during the application of Spain. The Ambassador presented to attendants also the Spain strategy in the Security Council and the priorities in the Spanish Programme.

Cesar Aja presented the activity of the Educational Issues Division to the Embassy of Spain oriented to the promotion and dissemination of Spanish language and culture in our country, recognition and legalization of diplomas from Spain universities, information about education and scholarships, access to literature and various academic materials for lecturers and students.

During the lecture

The Director of Cervantes Institute Javier Valdivielso outlined that the Spanish language is the second most spread language in the world spoken by more than 500 million people as well as the third most used language in the Internet and the second one - in the social networks. He invited the attendants to visit the Institute where except the language courses could be found also a specialized library and rich cultural programme.

The Rector of UNWE Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Statty Stattev expressed his thankfulness to the guests, informed the audience about the fruitful conversation with Mr. Tapia and presented the plans for future cooperation between the UNWE and Spanish institutions in the educational sphere. He emphasized on the education of students from our university in Master`s degree programmes at the Spanish universities as well as on the conclusion of a new cooperation agreement with one of the most prestigious universities in Spain – the University of Santiago de Compostela.
