Prof. Dr. Svetoslav Spasov Participated in the Second General Assembly of the European Industrial Alliance for Small Modular Reactors /SMRs/
Prof. Dr. Svetoslav Spasov, Director of the UNWE Nuclear Security Support Center, took part in the Second General Assembly of the European Industrial Alliance for Small Modular Reactors /SMRs/, which was held on 1 September 2025 in Brussels, Belgium, in the Charlemagne building of the European Commission. The event was organized by the European Commission and brought together representatives of national governments, industry, academia, and research, as well as key EC Directorates-General: Directorate-General for Energy, Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, Directorate-General for Competition, Joint Research Centre /EC-JRC/.

Among the main participants were Mr. Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Ms. Ekaterina Zaharieva, Commissioner for Start-ups, Science and Innovation, Mr. Dan Jørgensen, Commissioner for Energy and Housing Policy, Ms Joanna Drake, Deputy Director-General of DG RTD.
Four panels presented strategic documents and initiatives, including the EC's Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029 for the implementation of the European SMR projects, the plans of the technical working groups, and opportunities for support through initiatives such as IPCEI and the Net-Zero Industry Act.
Prof. Spasov's participation in the Forum was in the context of UNWE's active involvement in the European cooperation processes in nuclear energy based on the UNWE Nuclear Security Support Center`s experience to date in SMR initiatives in Southeast Europe.
