Dr. Miroslav Shishkov Is the Great Winner in the XVI Table Tennis Tournament for the Cup

After exclusively competititve final match, the men's cup in the XVI Table Tennis Tournament for the UNWE Cup was won by Lect. Dr. Miroslav Shishkov from the Physical Education and Sport Department. The silver medal was won by Dr. Filip Dandolov from the Department of International Relations Department, who had been the champion for six consecutive years in the Tournament. The third place was claimed by Associate Professor Dr. Petar Ivanov from the Department of Physical Education and Sports /in the picture below/.

The Tournament was organized by the Physical Education and Sports Department in collaboration with St. George the Victorious Academic Sports Club of  lecturers and employees under the patronage of the Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov and it is part of the events devoted to the 105th Anniversary of our university.

The Vice Rector Prof. Tsvetana Stoyanova and Iliyan Chabukliyskщ, Chairman of the Student Council, awarded the winners with cups and medals and wished them to maintain their fighting spirit and continue striving for success in sports, science, and research.

Sen. Lect. Dr. Elena Moneva, the referee of the Tournament and its main organizer, announced that in the current year there were 16 participants, divided into 4 groups of 4, and for the first time, a competition in couples was held. The first place in the Tournament among couples was won by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Petar Ivanov and Chief Assist. Dr. Ivan Valchanov, Scientific Secretary of Media and Public Communication Department. The second place was won by Dr. Filip Dandolov and Assoc. Prof. Boyko Valchev, Deputy Head of the International Relations Department, while the third place was won by Prof. Dr. Spas Stavrev and Lect. Dr. Miroslav Shishkov, both from the Physical Education and Sports Department /in the picture below/.

Prof. Dr. Tsvetana Stoyanova greeted all the participants, noting that among them there were „serious competitors“: „You are not only good researchers, good scholars, good lecturers, and good administrators, but you are also good athletes. The sports achievements that the Physical Education and Sports Department has had over its 71 years of existence give us hope that in the 105th year of UNWE the lecturers, employees and students will achieve even better results. You prove that you have a healthy mind in a healthy body so the university's motto the Spirit Makes the Power is particularly appropriate for all participants in these competitive sports events“.

The Scientific Secretary of the Physical Education and Sports Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ralitsa Arsova expressed thankfulness to the Student Council for the excellent partnership over the years and highlighted the role of St. George the Victorious Academic Sports Club for the joint initiatives related to sports, as well as the contributions of Plamen Kyuvliev, Director of Bonsist Sports Complex for providing excellent conditions that allow the lecturersq employees and students to practice various sports. She also expressed her personal gratitude to Prof. Dr. Tsvetana Stoyanova, Vice Rector for Institutional and Business Cooperation and Student Policies, for her involvement and support of the Tournament.

The Doyen of Physical Education and Sports Department Prof. Dr. Spas Stavrev emphasized on the uniqueness of the Tournament and its role in promoting a healthy lifestyle and physical activity among the lecturers and employees of the University.

In addition to the cups and medals, the participants also received T-shirts with the UNWE logo.
