Patriarch Daniil Will Serve aThanksgiving Prayer at the UNWE
At the Solemn Assembly on the occasion of the 105th Anniversary of the UNWE which will take place on 20 May 2025 at 10.00 a.m. in Maxima Aula, His Holiness the Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia Daniil will serve a Thanksgiving Prayer for the students, lecturers and employees of the centuries-old institution.
The Patriarch will also have the honour of giving his archpastoral blessing in the presence of the Chairperson of the National Assembly of Bulgaria Mrs. Natalia Kiselova and the Minister of Education and Science Mr. Krasimir Valchev. They will deliver speeches and will also be asked to leave messages in the Golden Book of UNWE. Wreaths and flowers will be laid at the monument of the founder and first Rector of the Free University of Political and Economic Sciences Prof. Stephan Bobchev.

By Sofia Municipal Council Desicion and by the proposal of the Rector of UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov a commemorative stone plate will be placed on the facade of the building at 6 Slavyanska Street to mark the foundation of the Free University of Political and Economic Sciences. One hundred and five years ago, the building of the Slavic Society stood at this very location, where the university was established. The stone plate will contain the following text:
“On 21 May 1920 in this building it was established the Free University of Political and Economic Sciences whose successor is the University of National and World Economy – UNWE”.
The celebration day will end with a Solemn Reception at the National Historical Museum at 7:00 p.m. where the Representative Brass Band of the National Guards Unit of Bulgaria will greet the guests and UNWE on the occasion of the 105th Anniversary.
Speeches will be delivered by the Rector of UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, the Chairperson of the National Assembly Mrs. Nataliya Kiselova and Mrs. Iliana Yotova, Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria. Official guests at the celebration will include ministers, members of parliament, ambassadors, representatives of the academic community and partner organizations. The musical host of the event will be the talented Bulgarian singer Desi Dobreva who will entertain the guests with a selected programme.
