“The UNWE has already nearly 300,000 graduates and we are proud that we have given to Bulgaria 150 ministers, including 11 prime ministers, all the governors of the Bulgarian National Bank, as well as a number of other well-known representatives of the public administration and private business. Our students head important international institutions, including the International Monetary Fund which is currently led by our graduate and lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kristalina Georgieva”, outlined the Rector of UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov on the occasion of the 105th Anniversary.
He emphasized that higher education in Bulgaria continues to transform and the adaptation to the digital world and the creation of practice-oriented training are of key importance for the future of the universities. The technology and globalisation require universities to be increasingly flexible, and the labour market is increasingly challenging to the skills of graduates.
The Rector of UNWE added that the management of the University is based on several fundamental principles pointed out in his Mandate Programme: upholding the academic spirit and autonomy of the Departments and Faculties in their decisions regarding the lecturers and academic growth, curricula, programmes and external relations; high quality in all spheres of activity - education, research and administrative services; motivating and stimulating the development of academic staff, collegiality and respect for personal dignity, objectives and interests of each lecturer, student, and staff member; the rule of law, policies, and procedures; ensuring student self-governance; developing innovation in instructional methods, technological environment, and communications; and being proactive with the external environment.
In its second century the UNWE strengthens its position as a leading economic university in the country, introducing new curricula that meet the current trends in the economy and business, and expanding its international partnerships.
