UNWE Awarded the Prizes for the Best Administration 2024

In honour of the 105th Anniversary of our university for the first time at a solemn ceremony in Maxima Aula the UNWE awarded the prizes for the Best Administration 2024.

"The role of the administration is fundamental - it is the backbone of any sustainable and effective institutional system. I believe that through these awards we will give additional visibility and recognition to the best practices in this field and will further encourage the pursuit of professionalism and ethics in public service", said at the opening of the event the Rector of UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov and added: “The University of National and World Economy owns the trademark for the Best Administration registered at the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria. It`s an honour for us that all together start a tradition today. UNWE will continue to support and develop the relation between the academic community and the public administration. We are convinced that through knowledge, traditions and responsibility to society we will continue to build the future of Bulgaria".

The prizes are awarded for the first time at such a glamorous ceremony, but the research, led by Prof. D.Sc. Borislav Borisov, has been conducted for several years by the UNWE Institute of Economics and Politics.

The administrative structures nominated for the Best Administration 2024 competition were selected from all 580+ administrative structures using two artificial intelligence chatbots by asking relevant questions. This way, the list was reduced to 74 administrations, which were sent an electronic questionnaire containing 28 questions, each with four possible answers, defining the state of the administration in a certain area of assessment.

There are 4 winners in each category – a ministry, state agency, regional administration and municipal administration. And based on the comprehensive evaluation, four of them will take the Grand Award for Administration of the Year.

The grand prizes according to the complex evaluation were awarded to:

The best administration among the ministries for 2024 is the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy. The prize was awarded to the Minister of Labour and Social Policy Borislav Gutsanov by the Chairperson of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria Natalia Kiselova.

The National Statistical Institute /NSI/ was awarded the prize for the Best Administration among the Government Agencies for 2024. The prize was awarded to the President of NSI Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Atanasov by the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria Iliana Yotova.

The third major prize for the Best District Administration for 2024 was awarded to Pernik District Administration. The Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov awarded the prize to the District Governor Lyudmil Veselinov.

The best municipal administration for 2024 is Gabrovo Municipality. The prize was awarded to the Mayor of Gabrovo Tanya Hristova by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov.

The Rector of UNWE Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov awarded several special prizes. Prof. Dimitrov awarded to the Mayor of Kostinbrod Traiko Mladenov a special prize for the fastest developing industrial zone and support for business. Gotse Delchev Municipality was awarded for active support in building the education-business relation at local level, and the Mayor Vladimir Moskov received the award. The Bulgarian Telegraph Agency was awarded the Rector's special prize for digitalization and innovative policies for staff development.
