Record Number of Participants in the Third University Competition in Mathematics

More than 70 students from various specialities and courses took part in the third University Competition in Mathematics. The students with best results will be included in the two mathematics teams that will compete at the National Student Olympiad in Mathematics which will be held in May in Ruse, Bulgaria.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Milena Dimova, Head of the Mathematics Department, greeted the students for accepting the challenge to participate in the Competition. "I am sure that your mathematical and analytical skills and abilities will be more appreciated in the modern world and will be a guarantee for your successful professional realization." She expressed thankfulness to the Rector's Managing Body for the support they provide to the Department for organizing the Competition and the participation of the teams in the national competitions.

"I am glad that so early on Saturday there are so many students willing to measure their knowledge in the rather difficult discipline as Mathematics", said Prof. Dr. Tsvetana Stoyanova, Vice-Rector for Institutional and Business Cooperation and Student Policies. "I welcome you for being here and eager to prove yourselves and show that students at our university are some of the best not only as economists but also as mathematicians." She greeted Prof. Dr. Vilislav Buchakchiev for his tireless work to organize the Competition and the formation of the Mathematics team, which won multiple awards both individually and as a team for the UNWE. She announced that in the current year the cash prizes for the students with the best results will be higher and will amount to BGN 400.

"I am sure that the best students will win because as the Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev says, Mathematics is a fundamental discipline that develops creative thinking, the ability to see things in their full scope and it is the one that will help you in real life", added Prof. Stoyanova.

Chief Assist. Dr. Vilislav Buchakchiev, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Competition and lecturer at the Mathematics Department, instructed the competitors, explaining that the tasks are designed to the studied material and that the competition lasts 4 hours.
