A speech on behalf of the Rector of UNWE Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov was read by Eng. Yulian Prilepsky.

The speech highlights that the recognition and respect for the ideas and work of Vasil Levsky bring us together again to pay tribute to the sacrifice of the Apostle. "His holy personality makes us turn to the future generations with the hope of eternal enshrinement of the ideas of the immortal Apostle of Freedom. He unites us, calls us and guides us. He inspires us to believe that the human spirit is unbreakable and strong, that above all the good triumphs, because the freedom is the inner state of defeating the disunity and hatred, of reaching out to one's neighbour. Levsky bequeathed to us the path of salvation, the personal example and the words: "Time is in us and we are in time, it turns us and we turn it." 152 years ago Vasil Ivanov Kunchev walked his last earthly steps, but instead of death he met immortality. Instead of forgetfulness - eternal glory. Instead of darkness, he lights the torch of freedom."

Speeches in memory of the work and personality of Vasil Levsky were delivered by the Mayor of the Municipality of Tsaribrod Vladica Dimitrov, Rayna Mandzhukova, Executive Director of the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad and the Consul of the Republic of Bulgaria at the Consulate General in Nis Dimitar Tsanev.

"My desire is to provoke you to think about the life, work and words of Vasil Levsky and to try to answer the questions - where, with whom and on what position would he be today", said the Mayor of Tsaribrod Vladica Dimitrov. In his speech, he recalled some of the Apostle's thoughts, such as "Time is in us and we are in time, it turns us and we turn it", "Our precious homeland will need worthy people to lead it on the path of prosperity and so we will be equal to other European nations", as well as "From no country do we hope for anything and to no one do we pray for anything. Everything consists, according to us, in our united strength. Against them the strongest element cannot stand". He appealed to attendees to think on what was said because "it is Vasil Levsky who is an undisputed democrat, his ideas are the basis of the modern value system and that is why he has been up to date for 152 years".

"Vasil Levski is a sacrament and a saint, even though he is not canonized by the church and what is important to do is to pass on the knowledge, attitude and respect for him to the next generations", said Rayna Mandzhukova, Executive Director of the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad.

"The Bulgarian people say that a man is alive until the last time his name is mentioned. I am sure that the name of Vasil Levsky will be mentioned by the Bulgarian people as long as the world lives, as long as there is a living Bulgarian on this earth, his name will live", said Dimitar Tsanev.
