A Graduate of UNWE Has Been Appointed as Director of the Public Financial Inspection Agency

A new key position in the state administration is occupied by a graduate of our university. Lyudmila Petkova, Master in Economics and Trade Management from the UNWE, is the new Director of the Public Financial Inspection Agency /PFIA/.

In addition to the Master's degree in Economics and Trade Management from the UNWE, Lyudmila Petkova holds specializations in International Accounting Standards from the Institute for Postgraduate Studies at UNWE as well as in European Law and Administrative Practices from the New Bulgarian University. She is an experienced finance professional in the field of finance with over 30 years of practice in tax policy and public finance management.

Lyudmila Petkova was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in both interim governments headed by Dimitar Glavchev.


The Public Financial Inspection Agency /PFIA/ is an administration under the Minister of Finance, established in 2006. The main objective of the Agency is to protect the public financial interests by carrying out subsequent financial inspections for compliance with the legal acts governing budgetary discipline, financial and economic or accounting activities of the organizations and persons within its scope of activity. The PFIA is the institution that performs a sanctioning function when infringements are detected. It is also the competent authority which implements administrative and criminal liability in the field of public procurement. The detection of fraud and irregularities affecting the financial interests of the European Communities is also an essential task of the State Financial Inspectorate.
