Working Visit of UNWE Lecturers on a Project in Barcelona

In the period 12-16 January 2025 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Denitsa Gorchilova and Assist. Dr. Violeta Toncheva-Zlatkova were on a working visit in Barcelona as part of the activities on the project No. KP-06-H65/3 of 12 December 2022 - Volunteering as an Approach for Building Sustainable University Communities, funded by the National Science Fund at Ministry of Education and Science.

The first meeting was on the campus of the Esade Business and Law School in Sant Cugat in Barcelona. The colleagues Cristina Jimenez and Maika Silva from the Identity and Mission Division showed us around The Rambla of Innovation. It is home of 7 labs - Decision Lab, eGarage, eWorks, Fusion Point, Fab Lab, Finance Lab, Media Room - that give students the opportunity to learn by trying, to experiment, to use the experience of practitioners, to expand their network and to change the world.

The lecturers then visited the Esade University Development Service /SUD/ Center. Jaume Maranges, SUD Director, and Maria Villa /SUD Service Learning Programme Manager/ presented the many ways in which they promote volunteerism. The Center offers the following programmes:
For students
- SUD Volunteering - an elective course offered to all Bachelor students at the university that includes training on the nature of civic organizations and 50 hours of volunteer service. The course is completed with ECTS credits;
- SUD Internship - work experience in civil society organizations, mainly in the Third World countries.
For University employees
- SUD Stage - 2-3 weeks of work at the third world universities during the summer vacation, which supports personal and career development.
For lecturers
- SUD Service Learning - jointly with the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning the lecturers make the learning through service to the community part of the learning process by being able to work with small groups of students.
The last meetings in Barcelona were with colleagues from the IQS School of Management - part of the Institut Quimic de Sarria /IQS/ University.

Carlos Falco, Director of Strategy and Business Management, presented the history of the University, its work in the third mission area, and offered a tour of the historic, working, and newest parts of the campus.
