The UNWE and the Bulgarian National Bank Signed a Memorandum of Cooperation

The UNWE and the Bulgarian National Bank signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. The Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov and the BNB Governor Dimitar Radev signed the document at an official ceremony in the building of the BNB.

"The signing of this Memorandum is a symbol of our shared responsibility and aspiration to build solid foundations for Bulgaria's economic development. In light of the challenges posed by the adoption of the euro, the role of education and institutions is key. The Euro Week held by the UNWE jointly with the BNB is a wonderful example of how the knowledge can be a catalyst for awareness, trust and successful integration of Bulgaria into the euro area. I would like to express thankfulness the Bulgarian National Bank for the trust and the joint work. This partnership is a testament to the importance of mutual support between the academic and institutional environments for the benefit of society as a whole. I am confident that together we will continue to build on this cooperation. I am glad that the two institutions will cooperate in the field of career guidance, professional realization and development of students from the UNWE and we will be able to rely on the BNB to support the quality of education of undergraduate and Doctoral students through participation in public lectures and discussions or other initiatives of joint interest", outlined Prof. Dimitrov.

"I see a symbolism in this Memorandum along at least two dimensions – the one related to the past and the other related to the future. The historical symbolism is contained in the fact that this Memorandum is signed by one of the eldest national institutions in Bulgaria, such as the BNB and the UNWE which is the eldest and largest business university in Bulgaria and Southeastern Europe. The relation with the future was clearly highlighted during the Euro Week, which our two institutions organized in partnership with the Ministry of Finance and the Association of Banks in Bulgaria. It is my conviction, however, that the Memorandum should not remain just a symbolic act, but should be seen as the basis for institutionalizing the relations between the BNB and the UNWE. It is the responsibility of Managing Bodies of both institutions to create workable mechanisms to achieve the objectives of the Memorandum, and I would emphasize on three of them: improving the career development of students from the UNWE; strengthening the academic capacity to work on topics important for the BNB and providing quality recruits to work at the BNB, something extremely important in an increasingly tight labour market", said Dimitar Radev.

After the official ceremony on signing the Memorandum a meeting was held between the UNWE Rectors Managing Body and the Board of the BNB and during it future initiatives similar to the Euro Week held in November 2024 at the UNWE were discussed.
