Our Girls Basketball Players Won A Bronze Medal in The First European University Championship 3x3

The basketball girl team of UNWE won the prestigious third place in the First for the sports history European University Championship 3x3 which was held in Rotterdam.

The team of our university formed by Veronika Dzhikova, Snezhana Nikolova, Marina Gelova, the team captain Veliana Stoyanova and with a coach Larisa Kasabova was set in the same group with the powerful host teams. However, occupying the first place in the group our team won a participation in the semifinal matches of the Tournament. In the semifinal competition the Bulgarian girls were defeated by the physically stronger girl team of Estonia which was the only loss for our team from a total of 7 matches played in the Tournament.

In the competition for bronze medals our basketball girl team played against the French girls. After an interesting match our girls won the third place among a total of 10 women teams. The Chief Arbiter of the Tournament Mr. Kowalski defined Bulgarians as the surprise of the Championship because no one had expected from them to occupy a place in the top triad.

Part of the tournament was also the competition from the three points zone. The representative of the Bulgarian team Veronika Dzhikova won the prestigious second place in it.

At the official opening ceremony of the Championship Velina Stoyanova, captain of our team was given the highest honor to read the oath of athletes on behalf of the tournament participants.

The girls from the UNWE deserved their participation in the European University Championship 3x3 after they won a victory over the National Sports Academy team in the final competition of the National University Championship.
