2024 Summer School on Modeling, AI, and Complex Systems Successfully Concluded
The 2024 Summer School on Modeling, AI, and Complex Systems, held from 21 June 21 to 30 June 2024 in Gyulechica, Rila Mountain, Bulgaria, concluded with great success. Organized by the of UNWE Management and Administration Faculty in partnership with several esteemed institutions, this event provided an enriching experience for over 30 participants and lecturers from more than 15 organizations globally.
The intensive curriculum comprised over 70 hours of study and 40 hours of seminar exercises, addressing over 20 advanced topics in AI, advanced analytics, and complex systems modeling. These sessions were meticulously designed to enhance participants' theoretical knowledge and practical skills through a blend of lectures, workshops, and team projects.
The Summer School included four real-life case studies, each presenting complex problems that required innovative approaches. Participants worked in teams to develop multiple solutions, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter and honing their problem-solving abilities.

The objectives of the Summer School were to cultivate a scientific mindset among participants, to inspire them to apply scientific methods in their research and shift their attitudes towards scientific inquiry. This mission was achieved through a rigorous schedule that balanced lectures, hands-on workshops, and team assignments. Participants were required to have a strong foundation in Python, R, and other essential software tools, ensuring they were well-prepared to tackle the program’s challenges.
The organizers created a comfortable and conducive environment for learning, which facilitated collaboration and networking. The daily schedule was structured to maximize learning, with time for lectures, workshops and independent work on team assignments.
Notable contributors to the success of this Summer School included lecturers and industry experts from various institutions and companies, such as Bosch, Teva Pharma, Smule, and FetchAI. Their expertise and commitment played a crucial role in delivering high-quality education and mentorship to the participants.
The Summer School was supported by the University of National and World Economy. This funding ensured that the event could be offered free of charge to participants, with accommodation costs partially covered by the organizers.
