For a second consecutive year the National and Regional Security Department organized a public lecture by Joseph Fitzgerald from the US Embassy in Bulgaria who spoke to students on the Cooperation between Bulgaria and USA in the
Field of Defence. The lecture was opened by Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Head of the National and Regional Security Department.

The lecturer analyzed the USA relations with its partners in NATO and outlined the road for cooperation with Bulgaria in the military field. He examined the role of NATO as an instrument for the national security strengthening
and reviewed the various programmes for military education and training such as the Cooperation Educational and Training Programme (CETP), trainings at the George Marshal European Center for Security Studies, courses for sergeants from the armed forces and
assistance of the land forces as a main focus of the American support, the programme M2M which allows the American officers to train Bulgarian officers and soldiers in our country, etc. Joseph Fitzgerald emphasized also on the Agreement between Bulgaria and
USA (from 2006) for rendering of our military bases and the trainings conducted at the firing ground of Novo Selo.
