Challenges to Tourism in XXI Century Was the Central Topic of The international Conference

An International Scientific Conference on the Challenges to Tourism in XXI Century gathered together scientists, lecturers and Doctoral students at the conference halls of the university. The Forum carried out under the patronage of the Rector Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Statty Stattev was organized by the Economics of Tourism Department.

 “Here is the place to share with you that the UNWE is №1 also for the next six years. In the institutional accreditation of the National Agency for Assessment and Accreditation our university has obtained a rating of 9, 65 by the ten point marking system. We can be pleased with that because during the period 2012 – 2018 we will again hold with proud the first place in Bulgaria which means we are officially recognized as the best university in the country”, pointed out the Rector Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Statty Stattev at the opening of the Conference. He expressed his confidence that in the upcoming accreditation by professional fields, the professional field of Economics and the speciality Tourism would again have the maximum rating.

The Economics of Tourism Department by its Head Prof. Dr. Dimitar Tadarakov is an example of how should be developed a Department in the modern conditions – it should improve permanently its academic programme, realize international contacts leading to international recognition, strengthen its relations to business, pointed out Prof. Stattev. “I am personally very proud that in the current year will start the study of the speciality Economics of Tourism in the English language, outlined the Rector and pointed as examples the Sorbonne where “half of the lecturing is in the English language” and the University of Milan where “from 2014 the lecturing will be entirely in the English language”. The Rector announced that it was forthcoming to be opened a second joint Master`s degree programme and he hoped that it would be at the Economics of Tourism Department. “These are the reasons that have prompted me to assume the patronage of the Conference with conviction. And after I have acquainted with the themes and reports of the Conference I`m really convinced that it will be a step forward in the analyzing of the issues”, said Prof. Stattev and expressed his hope that the Forum would contribute to the scientific development and lecturing activity.

Sixty nine researchers by 65 reports participate in the International Conference. The foreign scientists are from universities and institutes in Azerbaijan and France and Bulgarian scientists are from the UNWE, St. Climent Ohridski University of Sofia, the Economic University of Varna, D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics in Svishtov, New Bulgarian University, Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov University of Burgas, K. Preslavski University of Shumen, the Agricultural University of Plovdiv, Angel Kanchev University of Ruse, the International Business School of Botevgrad, the College of Tourism in Botevgrad, etc., pointed out at the opening of the Conference Prof. Dr. Dimitar Tadarakov, Head of the Economics of Tourism Department and Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee.

“The work of the Department is in two directions: to give scientific explanations of the events in the tourist sector and to make analyses for the future development in the sector – as in theoretical as also in practical and applying aspect”, outlined the importance of the research activity in the field of tourism Prof. D. Sc. (Econ.) Hristo Parvanov, Dean of the Economics of Infrastructure Faculty.

Three main reports included in the plenary session were heard out by the participants in the Forum. Analysis of the omissions in the systems for quality in the tourism was made by Prof. Dr. Manol Ribov, a doyen of the Economics of Tourism Department. The actual changes at the tourist market in XXI century were specified by Prof. Dr. Dimitar Tadarakov. About the Tourist Politics in the Science for Tourism spoke Prof. Dr. Marin Neshkov from the Economic University of Varna.  

The Forum was opened at the Large Conference Hall… ...and then its work continued at the three sections.

The thematic fields of the Conference were: Mass tourism, Specialized kinds of tourism and Organization and management of the tourism in the public and private sector.

At the opening of the Forum the attendants paid tribute to the memory of Patriarch Maxim by one minute of silence.
