At the reading room №2 of the university library was officially opened the newly established Center for Digitization. The beginning of the e-library was set up by more than 300 books, totally 120 thousand pages. The integrated system for digitization of the UNWE library fund was implemented by the Information Technologies Directorate.

In the eve of the Day of the National Enlighteners, one of the brightest Bulgarian holidays, we symbolically open the Center for Digitization, pointed out the Rector Prof. D. Sc. Econ. Statty Stattev. He outlined that the project for its establishment was conceived and began at the time of Prof. Dr. Borislav Borisov, Rector from 2003 to 2011 and Honorary Rector now. In the digital archive funds have already been entered a large part from the original inheritance of the founder and first Rector of UNWE Prof. Stephan Bobchev. At an author`s consent at the digital fund would be entered also textbooks of lecturers of UNWE, announced Prof. Stattev. At the e-library soon would be upload also the results from the university projects and researches as well as Doctoral dissertations (at an author`s consent of their writers). We would like to contribute to the preservation of the university book inheritance, outlined the Rector. In the modern world when young people “kill” the book because of the internet availability we rehabilitate it by digitizing it. The Center would be of interest to the whole university academic community and to outer consumers, pointed out the Rector.

We are the best university but it would not become reality without the best university library, emphasized Prof. Dr. Borislav Borisov. The natural relation between the university and the library he determined as an axiom. We began in the right direction a few years ago, outlined he and exposed some examples from abroad where university libraries work night and day. By the establishment of the Center it is realizable also at the UNWE, specified the Honorary Rector and defined the possibilities of the digital library as “the best road” and “№1 in the university education”. The attained results are an act not only of the rectors managing bodies but also of the efforts of the administration, the Vice-Rector on the Electronic Organization Prof. D.Sc. (Econ.) Valentin Kisimov, the entire team that worked hard to make the library leading in the digitizing, said Prof. Borisov.

At the university we have more than 500 thousand volumes of valuable books which in time will become invaluable. We must keep that treasure and that`s why we go this way in the time of digitization, pointed out Prof. Dr. Valentin Goev, Vice-Rector on the Scientific Research Activity.

The objectives of the project and the work on its implementation were presented by Valeri Dikiovski, Director of the Information Technologies Directorate. He pointed out that the integrated information system for digitization of the UNWE library fund was entirely financed by the university and its amount (200 thousand BGN without VAT) was 5-10 times smaller than the amount of similar projects implemented by the EU support in our country. Users would be able to read books and textbooks online and to search in the texts. The digitized copies are already available in the e-library.
