Dimitar Glavchev Is the 11th Prime Minister of Bulgaria Who Is a Graduate of UNWE

A graduate of the University of National and World Economy heads the interim government appointed by the President Rumen Radev Decree of 9 April 2024. He is the 11th Prime Minister of Bulgaria who is a graduate of UNWE. Two of the ministers in the interim government are also graduates of UNWE - the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Economy and Industry.

Dimitar Glavchev holds Master's degree in International Economic Relations and Accounting from the University of National and International Economy. He is a Chartered Accountant and a registered auditor of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has more than 30 years of professional experience in auditing, financial control and accounting. He is a Bulgarian economist, accountant and politician.

Dimitar Glavchev has been Chairperson of the 44th National Assembly for the period 19.04.2017 - 17.11.2017 and Deputy Chairperson of the 43rd National Assembly.

Dimitar Glavchev has been a Member of Parliament and member of the Committee on Budget and Finance in the 41st, 42nd, 43rd, 44th, 45th and 46th National Assembly. Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Budget and Finance and Chairperson of the Standing Subcommittee on Public Sector Accountability in the 41st National Assembly. Chairperson of the Committee for Monitoring the Activities of the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission in the 41st National Assembly.

The interim government includes two other ministers who are also graduates of UNWE.

Lyudmila Petkova is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. She holds Master's degree in Economics and Trade Management from the University of National and World Economy. She holds specializations in International Accounting Standards from the Institute of Postgraduate Studies at UNWE and in European Law and Administrative Practices from the New Bulgarian University.

Lyudmila Petkova is currently Director of the Tax Policy Directorate of the Ministry of Finance, a position she has held since 2010. She has professional experience as Head of Department and Deputy Director of Directorate at the National Revenue Agency. She has also been Deputy Minister of Finance and has headed the Tax Methodology Department at the National Revenue Agency since 2007 to 2010.

Lyudmila Petkova is an undisputed authority in the field of finance and has more than 30 years of experience in tax policy and public finance management.

Petko Nikolov occupies the post of Minister of Economy and Industry. He holds Master's degree in Law from St. Climent Ohridsky University of Sofia. He has specialized in currency, customs and tax control as well as criminal law. He holds Master's degree in Finance from St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo and PhD degree in Economics and Management - Intellectual Property from the UNWE.

Petko Nikolov has been a member of the Sofia Bar Association since 1988 and works as a lawyer.

In 2001 he has been appointed as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Privatization Agency and has been Chairperson of the Commission for the Protection of Competition since 2003 to June 2016.

He has been Chairperson of the Patent Office and the National Company Industrial Zones /NCIZ/.

UNWE Graduates Form the State Elite

In its 104-year history the lecturers and graduates of UNWE have been prominent scientists, statesmen, prime ministers, ministers, members of parliament, politicians, ambassadors, representatives of the state government, business and the non-governmental sector, representatives of our country in prestigious international organizations and financial institutions, mayors, public figures, businessmen, bankers, etc. Among them is the first Bulgarian Commissioner after the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, the first Bulgarian Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, the first Bulgarian Director General of Eurostat.

Over the years 11 Bulgarian Prime-Ministers have graduated from the UNWE, including the first woman Prime-Minister. Among the graduates of UNWE are also 4 Chairpersons of the National Assembly, over 120 Ministers and 10 Governors of the Bulgarian National Bank.

Their names are engraved on the Wall of Fame at the UNWE.
