Pupils from the Spanish High School Visited a Lecture on Etiquette and Protocol at the UNWE

Pupils in 11th grade from Miguel de Cervantes Spanish High School listened with great interest to the lecture on Etiquette and Protocol by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Blaga Blagoeva from the Political Science Department. The pupils were accompanied by Rosen Ralchev, a teacher at the High chool and a graduate of UNWE.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svetla Boneva, Dean of the International Economics and Politics Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Blaga Blagoeva and Rosen Ralchev opened the event.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svetla Boneva welcomed the pupils and introduced Assoc. Prof. Blagoeva as an outstanding lecturer who has raised the level of political science teaching at the University.

At the beginning of her lecture Assoc. Prof. Dr. Blagoeva explained the main difference between the etiquette, rules of interpersonal communication and protocol, rules of conduct in official and inter-institutional communication. "We need to know and follow the basic rules of etiquette and protocol because they facilitate the communication", explained her choice of topic the lecturer.

Assistant during Assoc. Blagoeva's lecture was her daughter Ivana Taneva, a graduate of the Spanish High School with class teacher Rosen Ralchev, now a medical student, who actively helped by pointing out the rules of behaviour.

"The first to greet is the one who has a higher rank or is older, and the lady is also the first to offer her hand in greeting or to kiss the hand. Actually, there is no kissing, but there is a gesture of kissing the hand", explained the etiquette rules when greeting Assoc. Prof. Blagoeva.

In her lecture Assoc. Prof. Dr. Blagoeva examined the most important issues of etiquette and protocol in interpersonal and institutional communication, such as the etiquette requirements for dress and accessories in various situations, the etiquette requirements for non-verbal communication and behavior, the basic elements of state protocol and ceremonial.

The rules when playing the anthem were also discussed – standing peacefully, the military kneel, no talking, no clapping after the anthem. "The last rule is very often broken", explained Assoc. Prof. Blagoeva. The lecturer illustrated the observance and non-observance of the basic rules of etiquette in an interesting and discussion-friendly way with examples from public life and presented various case studies to the high school pupils.

Rosen Ralchev and Sen. Lect. Stoyan Apostolov, English teacher at the Spanish High School and lecturer at the UNWE Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics Department, took active part in the discussion. The lecture was attended by the UNWE lecturers and employees who also participated in the discussion.

Assoc. Prof. Blagoeva delivered also a presentation on What the UNWE Offers and introduced the opportunities for application and training as well as the main specialities of the University and the International Economics and Politics Faculty. She also presented to pupils the specialties taught in English, the UNWE partnership with many foreign universities, the international exchange within the Erasmus+ Programme and through ENGADE.EU - 9 top European business universities. She also emphasized on the highest institutional accreditation among all higher education institutions in Bulgaria that the UNWE has obtained as well as on the almost 100% professional realization of students after graduation.
