Media in the Middle East: Professor Dimitrov is at the Forefront of Bulgarian Higher Education Quality Transformation
The Rector of the University of National and World Economy Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov gave an interview that was published in the media with a total circulation of over 5 million copies in the Middle Eastern countries - Iraq and Jordan.

In the publications Prof. Dimitrov is presented as a strategic expert and visionary, Rector of one of the largest universities in Bulgaria and Southeast Europe.
The editions point out that the Rector of UNWE, as an expert with insightful and useful vision, is part of the innovators who modernize the education in the Republic of Bulgaria and implement new practices for the first time.
As a man with a vision for the future, he boldly setts the venerable university's digital direction on a path of new technologies, green energy, modern curriculum content and international collaboration, and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Bulgaria has assessed the activities of Prof. Dimitrov for the implementation of its mandate programme with the highest rating.
"Months after I was elected as Rector, the world went into a state of lockdown because of the Corona virus pandemic. Then the first qualitative leap was made, and in just three days, the University, educating nearly 20 000 students, went to distance learning. Student's emails were first integrated into the cloud. The link to the online sessions was then established, an electronic lecture schedule was introduced, an online review of grades was implemented, and a digital signature was provided to the faculty. In less than a year, 21 online services have been offered to accompany the learning process. No other university has achieved so much in the digitalization process. In addition to the digital student handbook, the position of Vice-Rector for Cybersecurity was created as we recognized that this would be the future potential risk to the digital resources we create", said Prof. Dimitrov.
The Rector also points out the success of UNWE at the international level: “The efforts for student exchange with China already give results and the first Chinese students already study in Bulgaria. But the greatest pride of UNWE is our participation in the European project ENGAGE.EU. We are involved in a real European university with the exchange of lecturers, students and resources, a digital and virtual campus and a general information system between 9 leading economic universities - it is the future and it is an honour that we are on this path. Our university is one of the few to participate in such a European network".
Published materials highlight the university's renovated facilities providing a better aesthetic environment for living and learning, which is noticed by all and it attracts the attention of prospective students. The new, extremely modern University Library is also noted.
"We want the University to show culture and transmit culture. We presenting theatre plays and film screenings, we have started a University Book Week, and my idea is to make the university a cultural centre in the Student City," says the professor, adding modestly that, "When you work at full speed, people see it and appreciate it."
