The Rector and the Prime Minister Acad. Nikolay Denkov Opened the Completely Renovated Library of UNWE

The Rector of UNWE Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Acad. Nikolay Denkov were met by the robot of the University Library saying:  "Welcome to the Library of the University of National and World Economy. I will be your guide". Thus began the opening of the completely renovated UNWE Library which celebrates its 100th Anniversary in 2023.

"Last year, after the Council of Ministers granted us almost 2 million BGN, we started renovating the University Library. And in just a few months we transformed the old space into a modern library with new reading rooms, with common areas, with a corner for blind students, with updated digital facilities, with new modern and ergonomic furniture", said Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Acad. Nikolay Denkov expressed thankfulness to all the participants in the implementation of the project: "All we can see that the efforts made for the realization of this project. I am glad that one of your priorities was precisely the modernization of the University Library. I admire you for the strive to always be at the same level as the best Western universities and you succeed so the students feel that they are at a European university.The modern libraries make it possible for us to have access to the latest knowledge that has been created anywhere in the world".

Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov and Acad. Nikolay Denkov ceremonially cut the ribbon of the renowned University Library.

The ceremony was attended by the entire Rector's Managing Body, the Director of the Rector's Office, the Chairmen of the Student Council and the National Representation of Student Councils, lecturers, students and journalists.

In the presence of the Prime Minister a Commemorative medal was also awarded to the Director of the University Library Mr. Petar Petrov on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the Library and for strengthening the reputation of the University of National and World Economy.

"I would like to express my thankfulness to the Rector's Management Body and personally to the Rector Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov for his attitude towards the University Library. Whenever I have asked for something for the Library, the answer has always been positive. Thank you for your understanding of the role and mission of the Library. In 1636 John Harvard donated half of his fortune to establish a university and 400 books for the library. His were the words: ”Give me a library and I will make a university for you", said the Director of the Library Mr. Petar Petrov. He explained that the UNWE Library celebrates its 100th Anniversary old and it is one of the first university libraries that has begun to digitize its book collection and now most of the full text issues and journals are already in digital format.

The Director of the Library toured the guests around the new common areas, showed them the new book cleaning machine that removes viruses, mould and pathogenic bacteria in 30 seconds as well as the Bibliotheka selfCheck self-service station which offers a new innovative service - borrowing and returning library documents without the involvement of a librarian.

The delegation also visited the UNWE's big data processing and analysis system which is integrated with the supercomputer at Sofia Tech Park.

The Prime Minister Akad. Nikolay Denkov took special time to visit Campus "I" which has been closed since the beginning of the academic year due to landslides and it is in need of funds for urgent emergency repairs. Prof. Dimitrov presented to the Prime Minister the analysis prepared by the laboratory of the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy.
