International Erasmus Day 2023 took place at UNWE. The event is an initiative of the European Commission and it is held every year to celebrate the Erasmus+ Programme Days.

During the International Erasmus Day 2023, the team from the University Centre for Students and Lecturers Mobility /UCSLM/ at UNWE presented to students the European Commission's largest programme in the field of education, youth and sport and the mobility opportunities it provides.

Kaloyan Stefanov, Secretary of the Student Council, Ilian Chabukliysky, Chairman of the Student Council, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kamelia Assenova with some of the participants in the event /from the left to the right/

"The Erasmus+ Programme gives you a unique opportunity not only to study and enrich your knowledge but also to communicate with your colleagues from other countries, make new friends, get to know different cultures and traditions and improve your language skills", said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kamelia Assenova, Director of the University Centre for Student and Lecturers Mobility and the UNWE Institutional Coordinator for the Erasmus+ Programme. She also outlined: "Participating in the Erasmus+ Programme will also add value to your higher education. Interacting with people from different cultures will help you get to know them and to communicate better in the future. The communication is extremely important in today's world and working in a team during the Programme makes your career opportunities in a big company with a good salary much better".

The University Centre for Students and Lecturers Mobility collaborates with 220 universities from 26 European countries under the Erasmus+ Programme. The main destinations for the UNWE students are Austria, Germany, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, France and the Czech Republic.

Currently there are students from 15 different countries carrying out an inward mobility programme at the UNWE.

During the event the international students from Italy, Spain, Kosovo, Slovakia and Russia carrying out mobility on the Erasmus+ Programme at the UNWE presented their universities and cities.

Students from the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), the largest student volunteering organisation in Europe, also took part in the event. ESN-UNWE is one of the sections of ESN in Bulgaria. The main focus of ESN is on the current exchange students who often face problems in their new environment. The student network provides assistance in the process of academic, social and practical integration.

About the Student Mobility

There are two types of mobility - mobility for study purposes and practice mobility.

The student mobility for study purposes lasts one semester or more /from 3 to 12 months/ and takes place in a partner university in the European Union or outside it /see the UNWE partner universities on the UCSLM website/. To find the most suitable programme or university for you it is a good idea to consider in advance:

  • the programmes provided there and how similar they are to your programme at the UNWE;
  • the language of teaching at the host institution.

One of the greatest benefits of student mobility is that it allows you to experience another country, another university, another way of studying, another culture, all without having to pay tuition fees at the host institution. You remain a student at UNWE and when you return, your credits in the relevant subjects will be recognized by our University.

Students willing to acquire new skills and professional knowledge we encourage to apply for a student practice mobility. To take advantage of this opportunity, you must express your interest and strictly follow the guidelines provided by the employees of the University Center for Student and Lecturers Mobility. The eligible duration of the student practice mobility could vary between 2 and 12 months.

The Erasmus+ Programme provides financial support to enable students to gain innovative knowledge, new skills and intercultural experience that could be invaluable when applying for a job.

If all this sounds good to you but you don't know where to start, please, do the following:

Step 1: Read the information about the Erasmus+ Programme on the UCSLM website.

Step 2: Check whether you are eligible for student mobility for study purposes or for student practice mobility.

Step 3: Follow the instructions and deadlines and send your application with the required documents to the following e-mail address: [email protected].

Look out for an upcoming application deadline!
