The Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov: The Second Ranking Will Be Announced on 18 July, Medical Certificate Is No Longer Required

In the paid form of study, applicants do not wait for rankings, exception for the specialities Law, Journalism and the joint programmes in which there is a great interest.

Prof. Dimitrov, there is only one day left for enrollment after the first ranking, how do you evaluate the campaign?

We have over 6200 prospective students. We ranked about 4500 according to our capacity. So far there are 1624 students enrolled, 917 of them in person and 707 online. 1041 of the ranked students by their next desire have confirmed participation in the second ranking as well as 1561 of the reserves

Do you expect any changes in the second ranking?

In the second ranking, the places for state ordered tuition are fewer. We will look at our capacity for paid tuition as it is an additional option for prospective students. I would like to emphasize that those who choose the paid form of studies can enroll immediately, except for the specialities Law, Media and Journalism and the joint programmes in which there is a great interest and there will be an additional ranking even for the paid tuition.

Is there any difference between the paid tuition and the state ordered tuition?

In practice, there is not much difference between the state ordered tuititon and paid tuition. Students study together. The quality is the same. The difference in fees is several hundred leva depending on the specialty and the form of study. So those who want to be sure they would continue their studies at the UNWE can take advantage of this opportunity. We already have nearly 436 students enrolled for paid tuition.

How do you rate the organization during the enrollment?

It has helped us a lot that now a large part of the application and the enrolment or the confirmation for the next ranking is already online. Around 70% of prospective students already use this option. It has saved us the queues of thousands of people waiting at the bank offices and administration counters. And one more important relief. Yesterday, at the Rectors' Council we decided to not require a medical certificate to make the enrolment process easier.

When will you announce the second ranking?

It'll be announced on 18 July /Tuesday/ but maybe we'll be ready even on Monday afternoon. Almost immediately, our software robot will start sending messages to the ranked applicants and those who have a chance will go further. The new points are that we publish the minimum scores for the desired specialities and the number of people waiting in the lists so that the prospective students can better orient themselves. We have many enquiries from prospective students as to whether they have a chance of further ranking. At the moment no one can answer these questions because it depends on the behaviour and choices of other prospective students. They may have been admitted to other universities, they may wait for a second or third ranking, they may have some other plans, and there is no way to predict, regardless of last year's results.

I would like to remind that the enrollment can be implemented online or in person at the Students – Bachelor`s Degree Division.

We have extended the deadline for the online enrolment by half a day so that applicants can take advantage of this opportunity until 12.00 p.m. on 16 July 2023. On-site enrolment will also continue on Saturday - 15 July – in the frameworks of the opening hours of Students – Bachelor`s Degree Division – till 04.45 p.m.
