The First Graduates of the Joint Master`s Degree Programmme in Quantitative Finance between the UNWE and UniCredit Bulbank Defended Their Theses

Students from the speciality Quantitative Finance successfully defended their Master`s theses. The speciality is the only one of its kind and it is implemented in a partnership with UniCredit Bulbank. The UNWE is the first university in Bulgaria which jointly with the Bank offers students the opportunity to study this Master's degree programme. The speciality Quantitative Finance is offered at a number of the world's leading universities such as Baruch College, City University of New York, Princeton University, Columbia University, University of Washington, University of Strathclyde, UK, Glasgow. The Master`s degree programme developed by the Finance Department and the Statistics and Econometrics Department responds to the latest trends in employer demand for well-prepared financial professionals and it is in compliance with the leading global standards.

During the defence Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gergana Mihaylova-Borisova, Deputy Head of the Finance Department, drew attention to the fact that graduates of speciality Quantitative Finance receive theoretical knowledge and practical skills for the application of statistical and financial analysis and are among the most demanded specialists in the field of finance. "They have the opportunity for a successful professional realization as financial analysts in commercial and investment banks, pension funds, mutual and hedge funds, insurance companies, audit firms, investment intermediaries and financial houses. The skills of financial analysts also allow narrower specialization in specific financial areas that include risk management, algorithmic trading of financial instruments and asset management."

Mr. Borislav Bangeev, Head of Corporate Banking and Member of the Management Board of UniCredit Bulbank, pointed out that the partnership between the two institutions will also provide better chances for career development and professional realization of students as well as meetings with experts.
