The Institute of Postgraduate Studies Awarded Certificates to the First Graduates of Course in National and European Medical Law

At an official ceremony in the Ceremonial Hall professional qualification certificates and diplomas were awarded to the first students who successfully completed the postgraduate qualification in National and European Medical Law at the UNWE Institute for Postgraduate Studies /IPS/.

Zhivko Draganov, Director of the Institute for Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Dr. Tsvetana Stoyanova, Vice Rector for Institutional and Business Cooperation and Student Policies, Veska Gergova, Chief of the Legal Department at the Executive Agency for Medicines under the Minister of Healthcare and lecturer in the postgraduate qualification programme in National and European Medical Law /from the left to the right/

"I am extremely pleased that on the eve of the most sacred Bulgarian holiday - 24 May - the Day of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture and Slavonic Literature we have the opportunity to award you the certificate of successfully completed qualification in National and European Medical Law. It is one of the most specific and most difficult qualifications and I greet you for your efforts and insistence to successfully complete these two semesters", greeted the graduates Prof. Dr. Tsvetana Stoyanova, Vice Rector for Institutional and Business Cooperation and Student Policies, on behalf of the Rector and added: "I am glad that you have chosen the UNWE and the Institute of Postgraduate Studies to complete this specialization because the IPS has a history of over 50 years and the UNWE over 100 years. Our objective over these years has always been to provide high quality of education and to have a direct relation with practice that`s why we have included many external specialists in the qualification you complete. I am sure this new step for you will help you to grow professionally".

This postgraduate qualification in National and European Medical Law is extremely important for the ISC and the University. I would also like to mention the role of the Law Society of Medical Law and Healthcare which through Prof. Dr. Darina Zinovieva and other colleagues, assists for obtaining a quality education. Thank you for your active participation in this qualification. I attribute it to your interest and to what we, as lecturers, have been able to provide. From now on you are the ambassadors of this programme because you work in this field and if it develops, it will also be due to your evaluation", said the Director of the IPS Prof. D.Sc. Zhivko Draganov.

"I am very happy that we have the first graduates of the course in National and European Medical Law because it is a long-standing need that has been put on the right direction by Prof. D.Sc. Zhivko Draganov and by Prof. Dr. Darina Zinovieva with a team of specialists gathered to give their knowledge to you. Today is not the Awakeners Day but you are awakened people because you have woken up, you have understood the need to gain knowledge in the field and you are oriented in the right direction by enrolling for this qualification", said Veska Gergova, lecturer in the postgraduate qualification programme, Member of the Group for European Medicines Agencies Cooperation on Legal and Legislative Issues and Doctor of Medicine from the Medical University of Sofia.

"It was a great honour and pleasure for me to be part of the first graduating class of the postgraduate course in National and European Medical Law, right here at the UNWE, although I am not a graduate of this university. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the lecturers for their patience and for the opportunity to always have feedback, to teach us and to give us their knowledge. I hope and recommend that there will have more and more people to enroll in this postgraduate course", said the graduate Desislava Tsvetanova.

"The Bulgarian society really needs qualified specialists in National and European Medical Law and I am convinced that we, as the first graduates of such postgraduate courses, set the foundations, but this tradition will continue in the future. I would like to thank our lecturers who over these two semesters have combined high professionalism with a deeply human attitude", commented Radoslav Ivanov.

The ceremony continued with the awarding of professional qualification certificates.


About the postgraduate qualification course in National and European Medical Law

The course is intended for administrative bodies, medical and non-medical professionals and all persons wishing to acquire knowledge in the field of national and European medical law. The course provides comprehensive knowledge of national and EU medical law. The basic terms and concepts as well as practical case studies are covered. It includes recent legal cases from the national courts, the Court of Justice of the European Union /CJEU/ and the European Court of Human Rights /ECHR/ in Strasbourg. The teaching is in accessible language and includes the most common legal terms in healthcare documentation and legal relations in the field of healthcare.
