144 High School Pupils Took Part in a Preliminary Matriculation Exam for Admission to the University

On 8 April 2023 at the UNWE was held a preliminary examination in the format of State Matriculation Examination in Bulgarian Language and Literature and the results will be recognized for admission to our university. The organization and implementation of the exam is the result of the Agreement signed between the Rector of UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov and Dr. Vesela Krasteva /in the picture below/, Head of MARE School for the preparation of prospective students.

In the exam took part 144 high school pupils both from MARE School and enrolled through the University website willing to apply to our university because the result of this test matriculation exam is recognized as an entrance exam at the UNWE.

"Welcome to our university. I hope that for a part of you it will also become "our university" in the academic year 2023/2024. Today you can test your knowledge before the official matriculation exam in May, see how well you have studied the material, on what else to emphasize, and those of you who get good grades can use them to become our students". These were the words Prof. Dr. Tsvetana Stoyanova, Vice-Rector for Institutional and Business Cooperation and Student Policies of UNWE, gave the start of the test matriculation exam at the largest economic university in the country.

Dr. Ekaterina Deliverska, Director of the Educational Activities Directorate, and Dr. Vesela Krasteva, Head of MARE School, instructed the participants how the exam will be conducted in compliance with all the rules for the State Matriculation Exam in Bulgarian Language and Literature. For the strict observance of the rules an organization was set up with quaestors from the Educational Activities Directorate. Among the representatives of UNWE was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Antonia Pencheva, Head of the Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics Department, who will have the task to check and certify the validity of the exam papers.

Before the beginning of the exam, lecturers from the University introduced the high school pupils to the conditions provided by the UNWE. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Monika Moraliyska, Deputy Head of the International Economic Relations and Business Department, and Chief Assist. Dr. Emilia Duneva from the Management Department, told about the advantages of the University which offers 46 Bachelor's degree programmes based on digitalization.

They emphasized on the University's partnership with the business which provides opportunities for internships and good jobs as well as on the partnership with leading universities in the world from which students receive a diploma along with the diploma from the UNWE. They pointed out that our university is part of the elite European university network ENGAGE.EU and also sends students to study abroad under the Erasmus+ Programme.

The future prospective students had the opportunity to test their knowledge on the exam questions organized in three modules. These included multiple-choice, short free-response, extended free-response and text production tasks. The student Vasil Tsankov /in the pictured below/ from the First English Language School had the easy hand to draw the exam topic Option 2 out of 4 possible:

Ivana Yankova from the First Private Mathematical High School: ”I am from MARE School. I came to this exam because I really want to study Law”.

Paola Yordanova from the National Finance and Business High School, Sofia: "I learned about the exam from Mrs. Vesela Krasteva. I have known her for 5 years, I enrolled in MARE School in my 7th grade and now I am in my 12th grade. I took part in the National Competition in Economics, but I came to try my luck because I want to study Law”.

Martin Mihaylov from 32. St. Climent Ohridsky High School with Foreign Languages Intensive Study: “I found out about the exam from friends. I haven't decided yet what exactly I want to study. I have come to test my knowledge".

This new form of prospective student examination at the UNWE aims to help the orientation of high school pupils by giving them the opportunity to test their knowledge in a real competitive environment.

A test matriculation exam was also held on 23 March 2023 at Dimitar Talev Neurokop Vocational High School  - Gotse Delchev town of Bulgaria. 

The next two test matriculation exams exams will be held on 23 and 30 April 2023.
