During the lecture the global regulatory framework in the field of environmental, social and governance policies and its transportation into EU legislation was discussed. The practical dimensions of these policies were analyzed and the steps Bulgarian businesses need to take to be competitive were discussed. Emphasis was placed on the latest lending practices and new opportunities for business in the context of the EU green policy.

Prof. Dr. Snezhana Basheva, Head of the Accounting and Analysis Department, outlined that for several years the Department has had a practice of holding master classes on this topic, which is related to the increased interest in considering accounting as an intellectually stimulating discipline and profession playing a major role in addressing issues of climate crises, pandemics, sustainability, human rights, corruption, etc.

"Accounting is now defined as a technical, social and moral practice related to the sustainable use of resources and proper accountability to stakeholders to enable the development of organizations, people and nature", underlined Prof. Basheva. She pointed out that this definition allows to go beyond the purely technical aspect of accounting where only compliance with applicable regulations is sought.
