Public Discussion with H. E. Lukasz Kautsky, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Bulgaria

Public discussion with H. E. Mr. Lukasz Kautsky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Bulgaria, gathered students in the Large Conference Hall. The Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union - a Look Back was the topic of the event organized by the International Relations Research Student Association /IRRSA/.

The President of IRRSA Dian Genov opened the public discussion by introducing H. E. Mr. Lukasz Kautsky, his career and development as a diplomat.

Dian Genov reminded about the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU established by the Lisbon Treaty in 2009 and its two main tasks: planning and chairing meetings in the Council and its preparatory bodies; representing the Council in relations with the other EU institutions.

H. E. Mr. Lukasz Kautsky paid attention that the motto of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU says Europe as a Task: Rethink, Rebuild, Repower. He pointed out that during its Presidency the Czech Republic will focus on 5 closely linked areas: support for Ukraine, solution to the migration crisis, promoting democracy and strengthening the energy security, the economy, cyber security and Europe's defence capabilities. The Ambassador went through each of the priorities in details explaining the long-term and short-term tasks and objectives resulting from their implementation. He presented the work and activities that the Czech Republic has carried out over the last 6 months in the frameworks of its EU Presidency as well as the high-level meetings and conferences held with the community leaders.

The students in the hall had the opportunity to get a better insight into the dynamic field of European politics with a special focus on the work of the Council of the EU as well as to ask their questions and the Czech diplomat answered them comprehensively.

H. E. Mr. Lukáš Kautsky graduated from the Charles University in Prague. In the period 2009-2010 he was Head of the Czech MEP's Office in the European Parliament. From 2014 to 2019 he occupied the post of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. Since 2019 he has been Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Bulgaria.
