The Rector of the UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov took part in the opening of the campaign European Cyber Security Month. The event was held at the Ministry of e-Government and it was opened by the Minister of e-Government Georgy Todorov who is also a Chairman of the Cyber Security Council.

Our university is one of the partners in the initiative which marks a decade of joint informational activity of the EU institutions to promote and strengthen the cyber security. "I believe that the participation of UNWE in this campaign shows that we are paying serious attention to the challenges and good practices in the field of cyber security as well as to the growing risks of cyberattacks on educational institutions. It is important for us to know that we have the support of the Ministry of e-Government," said the Rector Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov.

The Minister of e-Government Georgy Todorov announced that it is the 10th jubilee edition of the initiative. “Our country will participate in it by validating a special stamp dedicated to the theme of cyber security”, said the Minister.

"In the era of digitalization and the horizon for a digital future at more and more levels, the public administration and all state institutions, businesses and citizens are obliged to pay more and more attention to personal and institutional cybersecurity. The role of the state is very important as progress implies protection", added also the Minister of e-Government.

In the current year the focus of European Cyber Security Month is on the phishing protection and how to avoid being blackmailed into malicious data encryption. In the initiative participate member states and partners from different sectors. The topic of the informational events for 2022 is “the ransomware and phishing”, targeting citizens, businesses and institutions - two major trends seen in the current situation of cyber threats.

The Ministry of e-Government is the initiator of a number of informational and educational events during October in which it will partner with public, and higher education institutions, representative organizations of employers at national level, NGOs and media.

The opening of the initiative was also attended by the Vice Rector for Digitalization and Cybersecurity of UNWE Assoc.
