UNWE and Dimitar A. Tsenov Academy of Economics - Svishtov Open 12 Joint Academic Programmes

The Rector of the UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov and the Rector of the Dimitar A. Tsenov Academy of Economics - Svishtov Prof. Dr. Mariana Bozhinova signed agreements for joint training of students on 12 joint developed academic programmes.

The agreements are concluded within the frameworks of the project BG05M2OP001-2.016-0004-CO1 "Economic Education in Bulgaria 2030" under which the UNWE and Dimitar A. Tsenov Academy of Economics - Svishtov are partners.

UNWE is the coordinating university of the newly opened joint Bachelor's degree programme in Business Economics taught in English and 5 joint Master's degree programmes in Sales Management in Commerce, Standardization and Financial-Accounting Analysis in the Public Sector, Strategic Marketing, Business Innovation and Management /in English/ and Environmental Entrepreneurship.

Dimitar A. Tsenov Academy of Economics - Svishtov is the coordinating university of the newly opened Bachelor`s degree programmes in Industrial Business and Entrepreneurship, Economics of Tourism, Agricultural Economics and 3 Master's degree programmes in Business Data Analysis with Specialized Software, Intelligent Information Systems and Business Innovation and Management taught in Bulgarian.

The programmes will start enrolling students in the new academic year 2022-2023 and the training will take place on the territory of the coordinating university for the relevant programme. Students graduating from the newly opened Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes will receive a joint diploma from the UNWE and Dimitar A. Tsenov Academy of Economics - Svishtov.

"The signing of these agreements is a historic moment for both universities because it raises the economic education to a very high level of modernization", pointed out Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov and outlined: "The development and implementation of 12 joint academic programmes required the participation of many lecturers, experts and employers and a lot of work by both partner project teams, but the effort was worth it. Due to this cooperation the students will be taught according to up-to-date curricula based on digitalization. Within the frameworks of the project six digital classrooms and two digital laboratories have been built and will be operational in the new academic year. This will enable to be maximized the sharing of resources, including know-how, between the partner universities and/or between students and their university lecturers and mentors".

Prof. Dr. Mariana Bozhinova pointed out that the partnership on the project with the UNWE provides an opportunity to share experience and resources and added: "We making great steps towards modernization and digitalization, not only of the learning process, but also in the way of teaching".

At the event attended also Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rosen Kirilov, Vice Rector for Digitalization and Cybersecurity of UNWE and Project Coordinator as well as Tsvetomira Penkova, Project Administrator at UNWE.

The project BG05M2OP001-2.016-0004-SO1 "Economic Education in Bulgaria 2030" is funded under the Operational Programme Science and Education for Smart Growth 2014-2020 on the procedure Modernization of Higher Education Institutions. The project is for the amount of BGN 5 million. UNWE should modify its training, respectively the curricula in Economics and Management, in a way that allows them to be similar to the programmes in European universities and applicable in the modern business conditions. The updating and modernization will be done in a partnership with other leading universities at regional level such as Dimitar A. Tsenov Academy of Economics - Svishtov, Burgas Free University, National Sports Academy and KRIB. Through this cooperation up-to-date curricula based on digitalization will be created and put into practice. 9 digital classrooms and 3 digital laboratories which are an indispensable addition to the modern learning process will be operational. it will enable to be maximized the sharing of resources, including know-how, between the partner universities and/or between students and their university lecturers and mentors.

The project relies on that a large part of the lecturers involved in its implementation will include in the programmes for enhancing the qualification and/or short-term specialization at the foreign partner universities with the share of young scientists to be no less than 15%. It is planned to be implemented 15 joint programmes with partner Bulgarian universities as well as to be incorporated 7 new programmes with digital educational content, including distance learning. Two academic programmes in a foreign language will also be implemeted jointly with foreign universities and scientific organisations.

The project will provide support for students to develop entrepreneurial skills and digital creativity. The project duration is 30 months and all of the above will contribute to improve the quality of education in Economics at the UNWE and in Bulgaria as well as to improve the quality of research at the UNWE and other partner universities.
