Students of the Only One in World Master's Degree Programme in Nuclear Security Graduated at the UNWE

Graduates of the only one in the world Master's Degree Programme in Nuclear Security in English defended their theses in the Scientific Councils Hall of UNWE in the presence of the Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov and the Deputy Minister of Energy Plamen Danailov who is also Programme Coordinator of Kozloduy International Fund.

"Today we will listen to four colleagues who have walked their path and are now ready to present their Master's theses. I would like to wish them success in the future to fully realize themselves in this challenging specialty", said the Rector of UNWE Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov.

"I can certainly say to the students - you made the right choice because the nuclear energy is a business that will continue developing. The future of this field is related to the provision of clean and affordable energy which is a source of many perspectives in the national plan", greeted the graduates the Deputy Minister of Energy Plamen Danailov.

The ceremony on theses defence was attended by online students from Bulgaria, Libya, Botswana, Egypt, Serbia, Indonesia and Nigeria. In the Scientific Councils Hall were also Chief Assist. Dr. Ekaterina Bogomilova from the Department of National and Regional Security, Director of the Nuclear Security Programme; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Silvia Terezova, Dean of the Faculty of Economics of Infrastructure and Head of the Department of Economics of Trade; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tsvetan Tsvetkov, Director of the Center for Strategic Studies in Defense and Security; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Konstantin Pudin, Director of the Center for Study of Institutional Change; Prof. Georgy Kaschiev, nuclear physicist and nuclear safety expert; Emil Bonev from the Nuclear Regulation Agency; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Georgy Penchev from the Department of National and Regional Security; Prof. D.Sc./Econ./ Kiril Stoychev, Assistant Rector, lecturers, PhD students, undergraduates from the Department of National and Regional Security, etc.

The Master`s Degree Programme in Economics of Defence and Security with specialization in Nuclear Security is the  only one in the world specialised in nuclear security. It is the result of a Cooperation Agreement in the field of education and research between the UNWE and the International Atomic Energy Agency /IAEA/. It is supported by the International Nuclear Security Education Network, where the UNWE has been a member since 2014 as well as by the Nuclear Regulatory Agency, the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria. The Programme was launched in the academic year 2015/2016 and its main objective is to train highly qualified management staff for the nuclear security needs. In the Programme study students from Bulgaria, Nigeria, Lebanon, Zambia, Jordan, Burkina Faso, Congo, Sudan, Mauritania, Uganda and most of them are scholarship holders of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The training lasts 3 semesters and it is conducted in English. In the Programme participate highly qualified lecturers from more than 10 universities and institutions from Bulgaria and abroad. The curriculum is in compliance with the requirements for acquisition of Master's degree in Bulgaria and the rules of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
