The Rector of UNWE Was Elected As Vice President of HELICAS
Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov became Vice President of HELICAS (Holistic Efficient Local Initiatives for Cooperation And Synergy) after an unanimous vote during the Seventh General Assembly of the European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation. The event took place on 17 June 2022 in Thessaloniki.
Besides the Rector of UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov as a member of the General Assembly of the organization, in which UNWE is one of the founders, was elected Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mihail Musov – Vice Rector for Research and International Affairs.

The General Assembly approved the audit report of the organization for 2021 and revised its annual budget for 2022. Opportunities for cooperation with other territorial cooperation groups in South-Eastern Europe were also discussed as well as possibilities for joint projects in the cross-border region Bulgaria-Greece and more active participation in the formation of European policies for the development of the region.

The establishment of the European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation is based on Regulation 1082/2006/EU and aims to support cross-border, transnational and interregional cooperation in Europe. The major objective of the group is to strengthen the economic and social cohesion through cooperation in the prevention and management of natural disasters and in cross-border environmental protection; contribution to the sustainable management of shared natural resources and ecosystems; promoting the use of ICT in the cross-border region, seeking technological innovation, supporting research, etc.; planning local cross-border human resource mobility policies; strengthening economic cooperation by promoting and supporting synergies between the enterprises, entrepreneurship support structures, etc.
