Sports Legends Bestowed the Awards during the Ball of Sportsman of UNWE
The National Universiade Sofia 2022 in which took part 23 Bulgarian universities ended with the solemn event Ball of the Sportsman of UNWE which took place in Maxima Aula of the University.
Stars of the Bulgarian sport bestowed the awards to the most deserving athletes and coaches of UNWE for 2021. Among the sports legends were the European badminton champions Gabriela and Stefany Stoeva, the former defender of the football team Levsky - 5 times champion and 6 times winner of the Cup of Bulgaria Elin Topuzakov, the basketball legend Georgy Glushkov and Stella Eneva - silver medalist from the Paralympic Games in the sport discipline discus throwing and shot put, world champion in the same disciplines in the Planet Championships in 2006.

"At the UNWE we make efforts to develop the university sport and we strive to give the talents the opportunity to play, so with this event we close the National Universiade Sofia 2022 in an appropriate way, said the Rector of the UNWE Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov and added: "I would like to share that the UNWE has been successful not only at university and national level but also internationally. In the consortium of European universities ENGAGE.EU whose member is also the UNWE our chess team ranked first in team sports and took the first three places. I wish future success to all the sportsmen and to all those who support them."

At the opening of the event Assoc. Prof. Zhelyazko Georgiev, member of the Management Board of "Academic" University Sport Association awarded to Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov the Cup for the third place occupied by the UNWE in the comprehensive ranking during the National University Championship Stara Zagora 2021 where the UNWE students won 17 gold, 13 silver and 9 bronze medals.

Senior Lect. Dr. Ekaterina Tosheva from the Department of Physical Education and Sport won the prize for the best coach in individual sports. The Team of the Year for 2021 is the basketball team of the UNWE 3x3, and the Coach of the Year in collective sports was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Spas Stavrev.

The Rector Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov awarded the prize to Senior Lecturer Dr. Svetlana Tsoneva for "Overall Contribution to the Development of the Department of Physical Education and Sport".

During the ceremony the guests had the opportunity to watch the performance of the cheerleading squad of UNWE headed by Senior Lecturer Dr. Milena Ignatova and acrobats from the Sports Club "Acrotamp - Sofia" headed by Tsvetelina Rogova and coach Krasimira Vassileva.

The singer Monica Nikolova and the bagpiper Stanimir Haidushky took care of the good mood of the guests.
