In a Public Lecture Were Clarified the Priorities of French Policy and Why the French Language is Important

A public lecture on The Place of France on the European and World Stage was held at the UNWE. The guest-lecturer was Miryana Stancheva, an employee of the European Parliament /EP/ in Brussels.

At the beginning of the lecture Assoc. Plamen Ralchev, Head of the International Relations Department, briefly presented the biography and professional career of the guest-lecturer and introduced the audience in the topic pointing out the directions of French policy and the important role of French language as an instrument of influence. He also outlined how unique it was for students to have a person with extensive professional experience in the European Parliament standing in front of them and to receive first-hand information about the job opportunities in the European institutions.

Miryana Stancheva shared that the topic of French culture and language is important and very close to her. In her presentation she focused on the strategic presence of France, its place in Europe, the richness of the French language and culture and the opportunities it offers.

She presented the objectives the French government has set for the French Presidency of the Council of the EU. "One of them is to create a Europe of Cooperation in order to achieve a free and sovereign European Union and European sovereignty. According to the Presidency, it will also be achieved through common defence. Another priority is the stability and prosperity of the countries located in an immediate neighbourhood with the EU."

The lecturer outlined that France aims to gain a leadership position in the EU. She drew attention to the reasons for global strategic presence of France. A special highlight in Miryana Stancheva's presentation was why the French language is important. "Bulgaria is part of the International Organisation of La Francophonie. It means that it is one of the countries with a strong presence and command of the French language", added also the lecturer.

Miryana Stancheva gave a lot of practical advices to the students about applying for a job in the European institutions.

The lecture was also held in MS Teams and provoked a profoundl discussion.
