The book Theory of International Relations was published. The author of its first volume is Prof. D.Sc./Politics/ Atanas Gochev – one of the founders of the scientific school for studying the international relations in Bulgaria and the first lecturer appointed in the current International Relations Department at UNWE. He is also the editor of the second volume of the book.

The edition consists of 1700 printed pages and it is a comprehensive large-scale research that shows how the Theory of International Relations plays a key role in understanding and explaining the dynamics of international relations and the world policy no matter the regional or security issues, the terrorism or world politics are studied. The Theory creates an opportunity to clarify the causes and factors for the occurrence of events, for their interpretation, for making expert assessments or for critical analysis.

Prof. D.Sc./Politics/ Atanas Gochev

The book has a monographic and comprehesive essence and in practice - encyclopedic nature in the field of theories of international relations. Both volumes raise the fundamental question of why the Theory of International Relations is useful for understanding the processes of world politics. The Theory is seen as a set of pre-determined analytical structures for the various ways through which the international and transnational events or actions could be interpreted, explained or understood. The authors explain how the analyses can focus on different aspects – military strategical, economic, diplomatic, etc. The book shows the advantage of studying the international relations as an analytical space different from the individual empirical event which gives the observer many ways to consider and understand the contexts and phenomena in historical, current or future perspective.

The edition has the objective to support the qualitative and efficient research and education in the field of international relations and political science. In this way those working in the field of foreign policy as well as those studying the world politics and international relations would avoid the situations of acting and commenting without knowing the problems which is dangerous especially in the above mentioned areas. For anyone who works or would like to work in these fields or to study and research them, it will be especially useful and necessary to read both volumes of the book. The benefits of the edition for lecturers, students, professionals, journalists and commentators are undeniable and it has been cited in numerous reviews of the book by leading professionals, researchers, professors, diplomats and practitioners in the field of international relations, diplomacy and foreign policy and part of them are presented on the cover of the book.

According to Prof. Emil Konstantinov, former member of the European Commission of Human Rights in Strasbourg and Director of the Institute of State and Law at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, both volumes of the newly published book Theory of International Relations are the first extensive monographic research examining profoundly the diversity of theoretical perspectives in the field of international relations.
