The Rector Met with the Olympic Gold Medalist Tanyu Kiryakov

One of the legendary personalities of Bulgarian sport Tanyu Kiryakov - the only athlete who won Olympic gold medals in the 50-meter and 10-meter pistol shooting visited the University of National and World Economy.

The Rector Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov awarded to the gold medalist in shooting Tanyu Kiryakov a souvenir on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of our university.

The meeting was also attended by the Head of Physical Education and Sports Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivan Stoilov and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Spas Stavrev. The possible cooperation regarding the student sports clubs was discussed as well as the inclusion of shooting as a university sport and the construction of a shooting range at Bonsist Sports Complex.

"In our university we pay great attention to the meetings with eminent names of Bulgarian sports. It is important for us to include famous athletes in open lectures. Thus, through personal meetings, our graduates will learn more easily that behind the great victories stands a lot of work, perseverance and organization", outlined Prof. Dimitrov.

"There had been a shooting club at the university so I am glad that now we have the opportunity to discuss the creation of such a club. It will benefit students who want to develop in various fields and could be a linking unit between defence training and economics", pointed out Tanyu Kiryakov.

During the meeting, the participants also discussed the state of sports in Bulgaria during the COVID-19 pandemic and how online learning has affected students.

"As long as a person is motivated, he will always find the right path and opportunity to study, even without physical contact in the halls of the university", added Prof. Dimitrov on the topic.

During the meeting it was arisen the idea of ??a sports ball where the outstanding students-athletes from UNWE could receive their awards in the presence of eminent names of Bulgarian sports.
